bought a fiesta with the 1.25 zetec in it as a winter hack, all seems fine except within seconds of fireing it up revs rise to 3000 then hunts between 1200 & 3000rpm?  ? can't find an airleak so stumped anyone any ideas? |

I would check two things. Your Idle
Control Valve but more likely your Throttle Position Sensor.

an engine CANNOT rev without air - check your idle air control valve (IACV)

Had this sort of problem with our moms fiesta 1.25 zetec, it felt like the throttle cable was sticking, also misfired at higher revs, simple cleaning of the MAF solved it, it was one of those moments when you can't believe how clever you are

That's usually what it is, dam things allways clog up! if i had a penny for all the ICSV i'd cleaned out,,,,, i'd have £3.67p  |

After cleaning the MAF out (or trying it disconnected to see how it runs), I'd still check the TPS  . Kas were known for shorting their TPS (contacts also going iffy), the 1.25 injection system is not all that different , causing a number of strange symptoms (silly high revs for a period of time being one). |
