It is very sad done alot of miles in alot of saabs in my driving time, I had alot in a row but thought the new 93 looked like a corsa inside, corsa is not a bad car but if I am paying 3 times the price I want 3 times the car. It looked dull as well.
I was very disapointed when I saw the new 95 as well I just instantly thought well thats Saab dead in the water, they have a two car range, one looks like a low price vauxhall with BMW price tag and the other is an over size fat looking blob with no kerb apeal
I used to be such a big Saab fan as well

I do really like Saab's. It is a real shame that a marquee with so much history is to be just hacked apart like Rover. I've had two Saabs. A 3.0 V6 9000 and a 2.0n/a GM900. The 9000 was a fantastic car. Only problem I ever had with it was the only GM part... the engine. The GM900 though just didn't feel like a Saab should. Drove it round for a lttle bit but it went over the bridge in the end as it needed a load of work and just wansn't worth it. ![](http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l37/SpeedFreak023/Saab9000/20072008049.jpg) ![](http://i782.photobucket.com/albums/yy107/dgautoparts/1998%20Saab%20900XS/080520101394.jpg) Really want a proper 900 turbo ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Had a 95 airflow til last year, even though it was a GM model it was awesome. Went into the coventry dealer about 12 months ago and the cars looked good even the new 95. I look forward to getting a 900 classic one day. ![](http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/mull1974/SAAB/040.jpg)

The only good thing about SAAB being owned by GM is that the brilliant B204L lump fits into my Vectra ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I drove a convertible old school 900 turbo and it was huge fun, the turbo when on boost was so much fun. My current conversion uses a GM gearbox allowing me to use a Quaife LSD which helps put the power down. Its a totally different experience to our other turbo vec which uses the VX z20 engine. IMOA the Saab engine is better built, way more tunable and loads more fun on the road. It also sounds like a jet engine when coming onto boost, which considering Saabs other outlet always made me smile! I sincerely hope they don't go under and are able to get back on the road building proper left field cars and excellent engines again.

Sad news, I think Saab missed a trick, they used to be in the same boat as Volvo all big old boats. Except Volvo dabbled in smaller economical cars, and look at what people are buying new at the moment. That's what people want, Volvo now have the C30, and a brilliant range of DRIVe cars of all sizes. Saab didnt really bother with anything small, just rep wagons even their diesels wern't that brilliant for the rep market, and BMW/Mercedes/Audi/Volvo took charge of that market. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

We've not seen what the Chinese will do to Volvo yet. You never know, they might actually do something good with it. Or there will be thousands of clones, all called Cherry QQ or something ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Hang On.... Quick check... What brands do China now own? Rover/MG (can't pronounce the V so is now Roewe) Volvo (Again, the V sound again.) Saab Seems like a good brace of cars, if they make a good go of it.

Not much to add other than pics. I agree with the general line, GM ruined Saab, latest models not particularly appealing, whole thing could have been handled better with the benefit of hindsight. I particularly agree that the sorts of people who bought Saab's did not like the idea of owning a car which was made of a load of bits of old repmobile. My 9000 was the most comfortable car I've ever owned. I liked the Recaro seats so much I've got two pairs of them to fit to other cars... when I get around to it. ![](http://www.red-green.co.uk/web/photos/saabpics/aero/interior_002.jpg) My current daily hack - as pictured yesterday evening, I'll stop driving it when the roadsalt starts, but we're alright for the moment. ![](http://www.uksaabscentral.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=3&image_id=105) My track car: ![](http://www.uksaabscentral.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=6&image_id=106) I'm restoring a Saab 900 Carlsson and an original 99 turbo. Both red. ![](http://www.red-green.co.uk/web/photos/gallery/99t/full/body_rust_repair_002.jpg) ![](http://www.red-green.co.uk/web/photos/gallery/images/full/raise_me_up.jpg) I work with Saabs as well, just as a bit of fun in addition to my normal business. This 900 has the engine management from a Saab 9000 transplanted. It makes the engine drive much more smoothly than it does with the oridinary distribuitor-based ignition system. You can also hook into the ECU and map it live.

Just wafts along eating the miles and drinking the fuel. ![](http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/313592_10150839609365529_578730528_20881038_532760072_n.jpg)

The competition branched out to create a 'range' of vehicles whereas Saab seeme dto keep with the same type of vehicles they'd made for years. Sadly big cars aren't neccessarily what every buyer is after, alot of new cars are cheap/economy types and Saab have little to offer for that type of buyer. Such a pity that they didn't look to produce a modern take on the 99, small engined for the 'fuel concious' buyer. It would have been a nice rival for the new Mini and if the cost had been kept respectable they may well have tapped into that market. 've never owned a Saab but used to drive them often when I worked at the local car auction, still got a soft spot for old 900's. It's a shame if they do close up but how many great car builders have gone this way. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)
