in which case swapping a Ford in now is double pointless.
An 1800 slant 4 is a good motor. Lots of people back in the day dropped them in place of a 1600. The 1600 is the runt of the litter. If you want to keep the stock 1600 it doesn't matter what you put in as a temporary fit, but make life easier if its another slant 4.

why go through all that hassle with a 1.6 pinto when it would be the same amount of work to use the 2ltr pinto ?, i suppose its cos you already have the 1.6 but if it were me id sell it and get the 2ltr

I'm not going 4 any sort of power increase I just want an engine I can get off the shelf parts 4! So I can drive the car for the next year until I take it off the road for full paint work! As it is at the moment I can't drive it so it's not worth having if it's sat in my lockup!! Cheers for all ur comments tho

what off the shelf parts can't you get for the vauxhall lump?
personally, if your not interested in an engine swap for power or a better engine for reliability/economy. and your planing to refit the original lump at a later date, then you've gotta be better off fitting another vauxhall ohc lump?

Last time I looked you could get pretty much everything for a slant 4 Vauxhall engine cheaper than a lot of Ford stuff!

and as this engine was fully rebuilt not more than a few months back and probably has less that 500 miles on it I wonder why you want to pull it out stick in another possibly less unknown engine and drive it for a year Just keep it as is use it drive it service it and look after it

Even tho the 1600 slant 4 was meant 2 of been rebuilt it still leaks oil like a siv!!! The previous owner covered more than 500 miles in it!! No motor factors local 2 me stock or can get hold of a head gasket SET 4 it! And the gear box is still leaking, whining and crunching in2 3rd! And as I'm on a budget any other choice of engine and box combo will add up and fast! b

Most motor factors didn't do bits for my BL cars either, and some of them were not rarities by any stretch. I'm sure a specialist supplier should be able to help .

Carpenters' Vauxhall. eBay. Autojumble. Owner's club. Classic Spares. come on, "motor factors don't have it" is weak! LOL
Loads of places. I had about a dozen 1600 head gaskets in the attic here. gave them to the guy in the VX owners club a while ago.
