Victor's got new shoes! Scored a near new set of 165x80x13" tyres off Ebay a week or so ago and fitted them up to the old girls wheels today. Also chucked on my spare roofrack to make her more rally-ish

Err how many drivers?? Time to start stocking up on the coffee. Have they got a recovery team following on behind, some of those places look a fair bit off the beaten track and i wouldn't fancy paying for a towie...

Thankfully the kms seem to get less as the days go on. 2 drivers and I know they took one trailer and a well stocked support truck last time, hopefully 2 this year with the extra cars. I just found this photo today, great to see a Victor going hard in the dirt! Anyone know where I can get a copy of the movie it comes from? (Rallybrudar, 2008) It features the Victor, a bunch of Volvo 122s' and many more lovely classics and I can;t find a copy for sale anywhere!

To continue our wonderfully productive week Desert Sailors is very pleased to announce another sponsor for our grand adventure for the Cancer Council. Hemco seatbelts ( www.hemco.com.au/seatbelts.html )has come on board this week. For those that don't know them, Hemco are suppliers of volume and one-off seatbelts for all makes and models of cars. We use them at work and I've had a set of standard belts fitted to my Volvo for the last 12 months, and have just treated myself to some custom belts in green to match the interior. Hemco can do custom length static and retractable belts with a range of stalk options and colour options at very reasonable prices and made in Australia. They've been here for a while too, I recently hopped into a mate's Peugeot 403 and the period fitted belts in that are Hemco!

We've had some fun recently and decided to put together some Team Tshirts for the Desert Sailors. All designs give $10 directly to our donation drive for the Cancer Council. desertsailors.communitee.com.au/home?ma=4

That is one of the worst paintjobs I've ever seen, I'm glad it's on purpose. With the less-than-perfect bodywork and what the car's going to do, the paintjob will be perfect, especially since you've gone to the trouble of refitting all the shiny chrome bits.
Are those motorbike indicators on the front? Smart solution if they are.

Well i don't think its that horrendous, at least he didn't matt black it or something like that.

Yeah, I'm not going to argue the paint job and colours are pretty hideous, but it does stand out and it was done in basically a single coat, with a gun tip designed for high-fill-primer, with no previous experience at spraying enamel for under $100. They certainly are motorcycle indicators, $5 worth from a swatmeet as I couldn't find front indicator lenses anywhere. Rear lenses are actually matching motorbike ones Just giving her a clean up at the moment for her debut at the Lucky Coq in Prahran, Vic, Aus tomorrow afternoon. After that she gets to visit my work so that I can store her somewhere undercover and get to work on the minor mechanical work needed

I'm one to talk though, at least your paintjob doesn't have brush strokes in it . Wouldn't have mentioned the badness of the paint had you not brought it up, RR rules and all that. Think it would look odd for what you're using it for with a super-perfect paintjob anyway, it's good that it's bad, if you follow.

I had a mate helping out on the day it was painted, Theresa and I bought the paint about a month before when we saw it on special based on paint chips in a brochure, one of which had a slightly different name to the colour we actually bought. You should have seen the look on our faces when we opened the cans and saw the actual colours for the first time!
