I'm not sure I'm feeling the love. And I do think that your 'contrast adjustment' on the pics is probably helping it out a little Well yeah, that's intentional. I understand the 'motives' you explain above. But do they need 'expression'? I'd just thrash it into the ground and be done with it They don't need expression, no! But I want to. Nobody NEEDS a hot rod, custom car, lowrider, rally slag, track weapon, euro-looker. We could ALL, each and every one of us on here, just make do with a stock motor, thrash it into the ground and be done with it

Well, yes, but you have a lovely lovely gti to express yourself via. No I don't... The £20 to buy the Corsa was actually a MASSIVE financial investment at the time. A nervous breakdown three years ago is still having huge effects that rumble on in my financial life. The cost of the MOT, Tax and Insurance for the Golf is more than I'm going to be able to afford any time soon. It pains me every time I look at it, reminding me of what I should be doing. So it sits, waiting And it's not disposable or cheap, that's for a different side of me. There's no way I'd just randomly spray-paint it on a whim for a start. This is a cheap, throwaway bit-of-fun for the absolute bare minimum outlay. Because I need wheels for work to start back to getting where I need to be, but I don't "do" anonymous and boring. Getting the new tyres that I've got for the Golf FITTED onto the P-Slots would cost as much as I paid for the whole Corsa. As much as I want the Golf back on the road, I can't have it right now.

i totally 'get' it, and i think part of the thing i 'get' is that nobody can ever totally 100% 'get' it only you know why you drive the Korsa, and why you've done what you've done to to it. Personally I like the stencilling but not the fablon, but it's not my car! you're much better off biding your time with the golf and doing it properly when you can than trying to rush it back onto the road whenever possible....

Ha Ha - I love cars like the Corsa that seems to be so universally hated, yeah they are not the greatest of cars but they very adequately perform a function for which they were designed.
I think its great that we've now had 5 pages worth of discussion about Darren's Corsa and the fact that all he has done is paint the lettering on the tyres & stuck on some fake wood ;D

Essentially Darren needs a creative outlet and can't just abuse the Mk1 ... so abuses a £20 Corsa instead.. its always interesting to see what creative minds do to things. Those following current trends may have just slapped a tin of mattblack and "wide steels" (whatever form they take) on and think they "get it" (whatever "it" is)...
I don't know where Darren is going with this, but I appreciate that he is letting his creativity go. One day when Darren is super rich, or I'm super rich and able to give him the money! He will be able to do what he wants to whatever he wants... right now he has £7.50 to spend on a £20 Corsa in order to give a vent to his ideas and plans.
Interesting thing is you are going down the same route my friend Jez was going down with his old Nova (before its engine burst into flames and melted the rest of the car!)... A kind of urban combat vehicle. He was planning to fit a roof rack with a set of those lights you see on the front of land rovers. Already had some mad Russian warning stickers for the back window. He installed some big feck off klaxon horn as well, and had it sat on Nova rallying wheels that he picked up off ebay for like a tenner or something. It looked battled scared and ready for anything.

Darren...I've been thinking heavily about this...
I quite like the idea of a 'pre-apocalyptic urban assault vehicle'.
Lift it on Forest-spec shocks Fit 14x6 Golf steels Fit BF-Goodrich rubber (with white lettering) Fit a sump guard (free - ask a local steel merchant for scraps and weld 'em up.)...Extend this to ensure that the exhaust is re-routed or prevented from being ripped off by speedbumps as you take them at 30mph.
I'd also go as far as to fit grilles over the lights to prevent damage (but leave wings/bumpers/doors to be knocked about), fit a roof-rack and spotlights as mentioned by David about his mate's Nova...
Really just don't give a shit about impact damage et cetera.
If you get what I'm trying to say...?

I have been trying to search for the sierra love thread which had a cool themed car that i think mgbgt7476 did, letterd tyres black wheels and a stock car theme i think. Cant find any way at all to search, even going back through the main page turns to nothing! Anyone remember the NASCAR-style CRX? In beige, with yellow-lettered ADVAN rubber. Nice. Very nice. *n

darrenw in da house: Having it too low causes too many problems, slows you down, prevents progress.
Don't need to be loooow to be cooool......
Some years back (before digi snappers so I don't think I have pix of it) I bought the older version of the Opel Corsa to use as a "winter car", I forked out some 80€ for it, rusty and a dog had chewed up the rear seat but it ran fine, first summer I sanded it down and prepped all the body rust and did a red primer paintjob, I found some Mattig 7X13" steelies that I painted gloss black and fitted with 205-60-13" rubber (big & chunky) and did NOT lower it, with that rim & tyre combo it looked like a NASCAR so a friend who does rally tires stuck on some big Michelin logos on the tyres and then I went with NASCAR style stickers on the front fenders. Inside I stripped it out and in went 2 speed boat seats and a small steering wheel. That car turnded some heads and was a blast to drive around in, for winter I had some Toyo Rally studded 135-80-13" tires on stock steelies and man did it force the snow, sadly it got to a point where the car was way to rusty to pass Bilprovning (our MOT) but I had it for 3 winters and it served it's purpouse.....
DP says: Go fat tyres and a chunky, urban assault look, don't lower it.....

Needs big chunky offroad tyres that whine as you go along, and a huge aerial stuck in the middle of the roof. BUT That's not what I have in my head... I don't have a specific image, and it really isnt' that well thought through... It's like something that's born out of the same "pre-apocolyptic" (I love that) conditions and enviroment but has evolved in a different direction. Like the way that boso-cars have stretched tyres over small diameter rims, but are totally different to euro-lookers. Wish I could explain ;D Guess when I know more myself I'll be able to show you ;D

Very nice. *n I remember it well, awesome car. I am really starting to get the whole true urban assault vehical thing now and it certainly sparks a lot of ideas off in my head. You can certainly improve a car for traffic warefare. Getting my Volvo was a real eye opener in this area. I fondly remember chasing a lowered and stiffened Fiesta round the local cruise and him not getting away. The Stock Car For The Street look is one I am loving at the moment. Nobody will remember but one of my first posts on here was about the American Police Interceptor mantra, those cars are some of the most suited for road action, just read through the spec of one and see how modified some are. Omega Interceptor for the win.

a huge aerial stuck in the middle of the roof. Woot. Don't forget to mount the mouth piece and cb to the roof. Can't see the aerial much in this pic.
