In a nutshell is was amazing. The show of the year, my holiday, the best use of three days and above all, a great excuse to see so many friends.
*the camping was great
*the cars were spectacular
*the laughs were loud
*the fun was of the best kind
*the people were, every single one of them, amazing
The people, the cars, the banter, the laughs, the chats, the people (yes, twice) and the incredible atmosphere that formed from it all resulted in a weekend like no other.
Friday saw a late arrival, plenty off beer and quality catch-ups then an early (ahem, 3am) night in prep for Saturday which consisted of more of the same as well as a jaunt out to an awesome scrap yard where we all got far too excited about bent old metal!
The venue, as many have said, was fantastic. Okay, so the camping field wasn't brilliant but it wasn't exactly difficult to put up with - and anyway, that's what beer is for.
Oh, and the beer. Last year we had everyone making random contraptions on which to ride, this year though, we had a barrage of home-brew of all tastes and textures. From cloudy cider to wine to lemon gin, it was all good!
The show on Sunday was epic too. Possibly the best mix of cars to ever grace The Gathering to my mind, truly awesome stuff. The pace just felt right, the venue was big enough to get us all in but small enough to give the day that intimate 'we're all mates here and this is how we roll' kind of vibe, which is good.
The hill-climb was bloody ace, too. I went up as a passenger in a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle which was, well, interesting and amazing all at the same time.
I could wax lyrical for days, but I won't. I will, however, leave all my pictures here for your enjoyment.
Thanks to everyone who made my weekend, it really has been the best weekend of 2011, without any shadow of doubt.
I've still not stopped smiling.
Roll on 2012!
Right, pics! First of all the scrap yard bounty!
No, no you can't.
Got poke?
This made KevFromWales really quite excited...
Some of group (note Chris' appropriate footwear)
Now for the Gathering pics. I should warn you that, like last year, they're mostly people shots. Enjoy...
Hardcore...
...and his self-stirring mug!
Racer86's 924 - that's the genuine reg turned through 180 degrees...
There are no words...
Got tunes?
Awesome, AWESOME weekend.
Chris
EDIT. I very nearly missed this one out, and that's not on!
