So that must be a '51... '52 maybe...
What a fantastic looking machine, agree it needs more tyre, but otherwise stunning.
A friend has a '52 DeSoto hearse - right hand drive from Ireland. Been in a barn for many years, but he keeps threatening to start it as a project. Will have to get him to sign up on here...

Cheers guys ;D I can't stop driving it, unfortunately that means I've been racking up the total loyalty card points! It should get a bit better when I get some proper sized rubber on....I hope. To answer a few Q's, yeah, it's a 51 custom. Engine is the original 3.9 straight 6 flathead which runs like a giant sewing machine. Got a few leaks to work through but nowt too bad, I'm sure when I'm 60 I'll leak a bit! Lol. The bonnet mascot lighting.....I nearly did a sex wee when I first saw it! ;D a little research revealed it is indeed a factory feature!  And a spotlight through the door you say...  I bought this Appleton police spotlight years ago and never had a car it'd fit properley, it may be making an appearance soon And the gearbox, I've managed fine tbh, not really hap a problem with it, but you can't rush it! You could write a short story in the time to takes to change gear! But still trying to get my head around how it works?!? (it's a fluid drive "tip toe" transmission, 4 speed, 2 low range and 2 high, it's got a torque converter AND and clutch with peddle with some gear changes being auto (1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th) but setting off and changing from 2nd to 3rd needs the clutch and column changer?!?!?) anyone got an idea? I've got a manual but still can't work it out. |

Lol, yeah I've been thinking about a chop, there's miles of headroom inside, could probably take 6" out and it'd still be fine! But I think it's too good! The cars completly solid! There's only 1 bit of filler in it and that's due to a small dint in the passenger door. Even the rear spring hangers are solid and unwelded! But it would look good chopped, maybe fastbacked/coupe'd |
