when i did mine i used the savage stuff from ebay, a tin of red and a tin of black, to delete the reverse light (wired as a brake)
and to loose the orange from the indicator (as my cars red and black)
i wet and dried the lights first to remove all manufacturer marks and logos, and any casting marks. to make them uber smooth as well as adding a light key.
the red stuff covers quite quickly and can tint pink if you use minimal coats.
the black needed a bit of a buld up. i used a hot air gun to aid drying in between coats.
a polish afetr with cutting compound or finishing polish and they will come up like glass.
i found that when cleaning the plastic/glass, don't use a window cleaner or white spirit as these dull the laquer and leave it a matt finish. i use methalated spirit as its water based and evaporates almost instantly.
