Okay first off, sorry for the similar thread to a few other buts needs must.
I have kind of talked myself out of going to the Gathering as the Holden is pretty much as i bought it, all taped up and rusty, so its not like its going to look pretty, plus the exhaust is still blowing. So....
I have been offered a replacement exhaust system (from the 'Y' pipe backwards) made in stainless steel for £189 which is similar to what the travelling to the gathering is going to cost.
So i am thinking of skipping the Gathering this year, and instead fixing the Holden up and making sure the car is waaaay better for RRG12.
This also means i wont be coming in the panda, as the panda now needs - head gasket, sump, 2 wheel bearings, 2 front shockers, 2 ball joints, heater matrix, etc.

Sod the blowing pipe (chances are it will only make it sound better anyhow) get in the thing and drive it/enjoy it. Bring it down for all to see, I'm very sure it wouldn't be the only old car there with issues. Park next to my scabby Cortina if it makes you feel better ;D

The question will be: will this weekend really make that much difference in a year if you use it for spannering? The alternative is a weekend of fun and a mojo boost

Bring it, I don't care what, we have never had a beer, and every year I keep saying I need to speak to more RR's, so drive it, either, and sit by the fire drinking lemon gin and boosting the fettling mojo to unspeakable heights! J

Right at this very moment, I have no idea what car I'll be heading to RRG in. All my half baked plans have gone awry. Lots of extra work recently means there was realistically no chance of finishing my Dodge in time. I'm waiting for a new exhaust to arrive for my Renault 16 so that's out of action and the only other old car with a hope of getting there isn't currently UK registered. The paperwork was sent off last Thursday so there's no guarantee of getting it sorted in time. The MX5 is out of test and I've probably not enough time now to get it sorted now as I've a heap of other stuff to do prior to RRG. I've also just bought another old heap which will be tested but it's currently down near Norwich, I've no idea when I'll be able to pick it up or even if it'll make it as it's been off the road for 20 years.
However! I care not.
I don't care if I have to go in my daily, or in my grotty old Vanette. I'll be there. The mojo boost from being surrounded by like minded fools at RRG alone is worth the trip. let alone the fun. It's not just about the cars IMO.

I'm with Panda. I'm not coming because I have no money and no time. Truth be told I'm currently unwaged so its more the money than the time but sometimes you just have to crack on with stuff or they sit there for ever never getting fixed...
You need to gauge the importance of the event to your mojo level.

Have you actually just asked teh R-R collective wether you should fix a noisy exhaust OR roll up to the gathering in a V8 wagon with a noisy exhaust??? I suspect you knew the answer before you posted

Its also due to work being slow, so money is a bit tight at the moment.

The problem is, you've asked a very rational question about an event that is very emotive to most of the people on here.. You knew what the answer would be But I'll throw my opinion in anyway If you've already got a weekend ticket, stop asking such silly questions and I'll give you a bottle of whatever homebrew I have when I get there. I'll be about the A52 lot and have flowery tattoos on my arms If you'd only be going for the sunday, then I'd be a bit more rational. If you don't go, absolutely make sure you put the money to one side to use for what you've said, otherwise you've gained nothing

I wont be coming either as I'm pretty sure the parts I need from holland wont be here in time! I don't much fancy stopping 3 times on the way to charge the battery up.

how about, leave holden and panda at home and get a lift with someone who is coming, chuck them some petrol money..
thne you have best of both - money for the exhaust and still the mojo boost
Looks like i wont be there in the planned car, but even if i have to come in the 55mpg daily I will be there otherwise i know I'll be pig sick looking at everyones pics afterwards....

Not going seems like a sensible idea. Until about 9pm on Sunday when the photo threads start appearing, then you spend the next 10 days nursing mammoth bruises on your shins from kicking yourself for not going. I know, I've done it myself in the past. Man up, get in the car, get your down to Prescott. STAT.

as all above, cant believe your even thinking of not coming.. who cares what it sounds like,I'm sure it wont be the only one there thats not complete in some way or another, mine may look good but its got clicky cv joints, grumbly wheel bearings and a slight blow on the exhaust but I'm damned if I'm missing the gathering!

My mojo took a real knock when I found out the Ax Gti Turbo wasn't going to be ready so no hill climb or test run for me. So i dusted off the Polo, got her running and will throw some insurance and tax on her and take that instead, with the ultimate aim of trying to sell it or garner interest in it. One missed opportunity often presents you with another.
