Sounds like a veritable treasure trove you've got on the attic. The problem is that we have so much stuff lying around in lofts and corners that we can never remember everything there is. The bits we dragged out this weekend have been there since @ least 1990, probably up to 10 years previous in some cases. We were finding bits that my father thought he had lost or used previously for one of his motorbikes. Problem was, he had been out and purchased some replacements already about a year ago We have 3 houses, 4 garage lockups, and umpteen sheds full of car and motorbike bits, so it is inevitable stuff will be lost and then found years later.

If, when you fire this beauty up, you have a bit of a misfire, don't discount the plugs because they are new. I used to earn an honest shilling with a spanner in the 70's and these Motorcrap plugs were notoriously unreliable. My record was seven plugs to find four that worked whilst servicing an Escort. Love the Pop though, I've always fancied a near stock example, but with a few period mods. Aquaplane head, twin SU's, possibly a Shorrock supercharger that sort of thing. Total opposit of the Pop Rod. It is okay, I have another 4 blister packs of spark plugs if any of these are fouled I do know what you are saying though, the worst spark plugs I come across are normally made in France. They seem to have split ceramic casings all the time.

I've got a stack of tuning stuff for Pop engines if you're interested. Got a fast road cam with adjustable lifters and uprated valve springs, a couple of Y heads (9:1 compression) and a set of unused Aquaplane inlet and exhaust manifolds. Got a lightened flywheel as well. I used the cam with a stock intake and exhaust and a Y head and it made a massive difference. Also got a block bored 30 over with some flow work. Drop me a pm if you're interested in any of it. Would like to get my money back for what the Aquaplane gear owes me, but not looking for silly money for the cam or heads. Thanks for the offer. The thing is, I am trying to do this on a very tight budget. As in, so far, this has cost me about £200 or so and I have just about everything to potentially put the car through an MOT. I am already using a 100e cam and inlet manifold, the block is pre-bored to 20 thou oversize and the valve ports have been flowed, all be it not too drastic. The more I stray away from my plan, the more likely it is to become another "rod" or something aftermarket, not an almost original vehicle that has been stored.

Hi, cracking find. I wish you well with it.
Couple of points for you. Flip out indicators are known as trafficators, and still available as NOS if needed. Were wheels sprayed or powder coated? Hope it was paint, powder willl start rusting on seams after short time. Alternators built in to dynamo casings are available, if you want to keep it stock looking, firm in Brierley Hill makes them. I can find more info if you want, PM me.
Why are ash spreaders not available? Are they steamed to shape, or cut out of solid? Any idea?
Andy

Andy Hi, believe it or not, I managed to find a pair of new flip-outs this weekend. I'll get a pic when I get the chance. The wheels were painted with a proper paint, so no rust or issues there. It is what myself and my father have been doing for years with some of the motorbikes as well, so they are well proven for longevity. I may be interested in the alternator-inside-dynamo option. My father "thinks" he may have a 12V dynamo around somewhere, but would have to go for a good look to find it. This may be an alternative should his attempts fail. As for the ash spreaders, this is the information I have been given by all the people I have spoken to about this car. Everybody seems to say the same thing, that a good set of spreaders is like rocking-horse poo. I honestly have no idea if they are steamed or cut direct. I would assume they are steamed as the shape is very "regular" for direct-cut, plus the bolt holes in the ash are elongated to allow for movement and alignment I would assume.

Flip out indicators are known as trafficators I've always known them as semaphores. Brilliant system, with uprated modern bulbs and electrics there's no reason they wouldn't be a viable option in modern traffic.

If it's any help, I had a Fiesta alternator on mine on the original mount with the dynamo pulley adapted slightly and I could use the original fan. Here is how I converted it: Fan pulley needed the a little grinding off the inside lugs to clear the securing nut and a spacer at the back. Pretty sure I had a thick washer the right size: Front mount: In place. Rear mount with extra lug added: Alternator in place:

I've just read through the thread from the start, thats a lovely car and very rare as a lot of these were turned into hotrods (which are also awesome but in a different way).
Book marked :-)

Next update….
From bumper and spot/fog lamp fitted.
All wing piping done.
Front end fully built, battery bracket fabricated, washers installed.
Been for road test and managed 6 miles before I overworked the fuel pump on the A2 and vaporised the fuel in the pump.
Let it cool down and back working. Now need a 100e fuel pump and spacer block.
