Just to keep you all up to date.....
Set it max lean and it still seemed pretty damn rich, so on Hardcores suggestion I disconnected some "unnecessary" vacuum pipes to create an air leak thus leaning the mixture. (For mot purposes only)
This worked a treat.... 2% CO!
Promptly reconnected the vac hoses, wound in a bit more fuel (wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding at mot specs) and set off driving home. Kept spaffing coolant out and then overheating and what not. Turns out the waterpump has now given up the ghost! So despite all this madness and everyones help this car just will not make the gathering :-(
