Flat four Minor van is excellent! Do you know what engine it was? Alfa perhaps?

Sorry Seth,I have no idea what flat four it was,I'm not up on engines and there were no obvious signs and I didn't get the chance to ask the owner.

Flat four Minor van is excellent! Do you know what engine it was? Alfa perhaps? Was just thinking that myself - inspired given that a flat four is what they were originally designed for. Now having thoughts abouyt a Subaru powered one..... I'd love to find out more info on that van.

It was at Webb's of Wychbold last year, it's definitely Alfa-powered.

Brian Damaged did a much better job of getting info when he saw it at last years Webbs Classic Car Show. "Alec Issigonis designed the Morris Minor in 1944 to take a flat-four engine, but the Cowley bean-counters turned down that idea in favour of the pre-war 918cc sidevalve as fitted to the Morris Eight. The owner of this Moggie van had taken Issi's idea a stage further with an Alfa-Romeo engine. Unfortunately it was surrounded by puritanical old giffers coughing up Steradent and gnashing their false teeth which meant I couldn't get a decent shot of it. " edit:beaten to it by the man himself.

I spoke to the owner at the MMOC national earlier this year and yes, it's an Alfasud engine. It sits quite high at the front though as the manifold is hung under the car. The engineering and detailing is truly amazing.
