Cheers guys, especially to my photographers for the day! Doesn't look half bad, even if I do say so myself It was a lot of fun, can't wait to run the Capri again - sadly that might be a while as the MSA rep concluded that despite it being a handicapped class I was beyond the modification allowances of the championship. Fair cop, so am not going to whine, but it is a shame since it doesn't affect my competitiveness in the end. The car is eligible for the championship I want to run in - Classic Hill Climb but I need my A licence for that, and the means I need to do another 5 rounds on my B licence. Anyway, I'm currently scouting out if there is a B licence championship that allows me to run in Sports Libre. I'll be totally uncompetitive, but I'm really only doing this year to get my licence upgrade so not that bothered about winning! In terms of how the car went, well we had a little wobble with the electric fan dropping out before the last run, but otherwise it ran great. Car is capable of going much faster, but the driver is a numpty so we'll work on that! All 3 of my runs were in the 58's, but achieved in very different ways. Sadly the more I pushed, the more time I lost in the braking zones due to lock ups - need to revise the front geometry and get some much newer tyres (the 9 year old Avon CR500 are fine when hot, but can't exactly get much heat in the fronts on a hillclimb!) But all in still met my target of getting to the top of the hill, and got a real buzz doing it so pretty happy really looking forward to developing the car and getting more competitive. When I get a minute I'll probably start a bit of a blog in the general area

Bloody good work for a first run out though. You should be pretty proud of that.
Best of luck with the A licence.

I'll be switching over to the HSA Speed championship HSA Speed and running in the sub 2Litre Sports Libre class. In hindsight this is the championship I should have entered in the first place, but hey ho it's only money.... The moral here - research can save you money and hassle! But that totally goes against my, rock up and see what happens attitude Also seems like the next two events I've entered, at Shelsley Walsh and MIRA, have Sports Libre classes for B licence drivers, so am trying to switch my entries in those as well - fingers crossed. So hopefully the Capri will be back out on track very soon - best get the fan working!

I've just had a good read of this thread. Impressive stuff and the colour scheme is an inspired choice. Will look great once the decals are applied. With the single light setup it kinda looks like a junior muscle car. Have you considered putting a badge on the grille? Maybe spaced out Ford letters.

Grill badge is something I haven't really thought about much, yet. I do quite like how many people it confuses at the moment though - couple of the marshals seemed to be enjoying trying to work out what it was this weekend! But something like the front of Lauren's Mk2 could work - Might keep an eye out at the autojumbles - always like an excuse to buy more stuff!

Congrats on the outing. I think you can give yourself a pass on the championship mix up. You seemed to have been busy with other things.
Car looks great and all the best with the next few rounds.

Thanks The organizers at Shelsley have got back to me (very quickly) and I'm now in Sports Libre, so all good there, and the MIRA sprint organizer says he'll see if he can get it sorted tomorrow - so good news all round. To be honest being in the wrong category was my own fault and I was simply taking a gamble because it was a handicapped class and I wanted to run along side the class I want to be in next year as much as possible so I could get to know people - naughty on my part, but I've had my slap on the wrists and will be a better boy next time!

Well it's been a long time since I did any updates on the build thread, basically because little has changed on the car and because all things hillclimb have been covered in my tales of a wannabe racing driver But now there has been some change. I'm currently writing from Port Charlotte, next village along from Bruichladdich, why? Well because after a very very (very very very) long drive we've dragged the Capri to it's new spiritual (get it? ) home A wee dram has been had on arrival, but a proper christening will occur on Monday - can't wait Oh and if anyone gets the chance to come to the Western Isles, particularly Islay, just say yes. It's beautiful, and besides the obvious attraction of 7 distilaries on a small island, there are few places like it for getting away from it all and having a proper back to basics relax

It certainly looks at home on Islay! Just how long were you there for? It's a wonderful place to be for a small break. It's about time I did it again.

Is that a one piece badge or separate letters cos I might have a one piece badge in the back of the garage if your interested

Great thread. I've just saddled myself with a Mk 1 Capri so this was a great inspiration.
