Second engine mount made today, and both mounts tacked in position. So the engine is supported. The gearbox mount still needs to be done. Did I mention I trimmed the bulkhead for clearance ?

That's gonna be one awesome car when done! Are you planning on keeping it original looking?
Also, is that a fibreglass bulkhead? Does it come with any kind of heat/noise/fire protection?

I've got Rovers.

Now that the engine is non-original, I'll modify the car a little. I want to keep the '70s charm of it, but hopefully de-bumper with nice deep-dish wheels for a bit more pro-touring look. Clean, lean'n'mean :-)
The bulkhead is part of the bodytub, so yes, GRP. I'll re-make the tunnel, but hope to include some heat-shielding. Orignally, the tunnel had folded aluminium panels spaced out from the tub.

I'd like the wheels off the omega, but sadly no funds 😞

Yeah, those will go at some point to add funds back into the Scimitar. But I need to keep the Omega mobile, and I'm keeping the remains of the car until I know I have everything I need from it.

Another part that may be worth your time looking into... Robbing the wiper system off the Omega, to replace the rack+wheelbox design! Not as if you're gonna struggle for access, what with the whole airbox thingy chopped out

You're like a crazy backyard genius!

Funny you mention it, 'cos since the weekend I've realised the next job is to rebuild the bulkhead. I might as well do it now while I can work out how to build it around the engine.
As I've totally compromised the airbox, I'll need to leave some way to access whatever wiper linkage goes in there, and provide chambers for blower motor intakes. The local breaker's yard is 200yds away so I might be down investigating neat heaters/blowers.
Lots of head-scratching to come.

So, most of last week was spent researching wheels. Original wheels on Scimitars are around ET0 offset . Anything of that offset these days is mostly for drifting, so not much to suit a Scimitar there, and they could be a bit pricey. Researching OEM options, the smallest offset you'll find on a modern production car is BMW 5-series at ET20. These are in 5x120 PCD: the Scimitar is 4 X 114.3. However a 25mm spacer/ adapter will both set the wheel nicely in the arch and deal with matching up the differing PCDs. So my maths suggests anyway. (THIS WOULD MAKE THE ET -5 SO WOULDNT THAT GIVE YOU POKE NOT TUCK???)

so I might be down investigating neat heaters/blowers. I can only offer up the Polo 6N heater box and blower assembly as the most compact one I found and it only needs earthing and power as it has it's own self contained loom

Thanks for the comments and input chaps. It all keeps the enthusiasm going.
Hi Carmad, I'm familiar with your handle ;-) You're pretty involved in the local scene and forums ?
Callumaspinall : it's a nice combination, but I'm not claiming to set a trend here. The X30XE has been put into a Scimitar before. The conversion of an SE6a has been covered elsewhere on RetroRides. There are 2 or 3 other Scimitars undergoing conversion on scimitarweb.co.uk
Your maths matches mine. Damned tricky to find any OEM wheels to put to use. Scimitar wheels are close to ET0, but I want a little more poke, sending ET into negative. I gotta be careful at the front 'cos even the standard Dunlop 5 1/2" wheels run close to the top wishbone.
Currently, my choices seem to be (in no particular order): 1. BMW 5 series wheels (ET20 as you say) with adaptors. I haven't seen these adaptors readily available. If you know of any sources, feel free to let me know, as this appeals to my sense of "adopt and adapt". 2. XXR513 8" at ET0 (possibly 7" ET15 for the front plus 25 mm spacer) 3. Compomotive ML. Compomotive make their wheels available in a wide range of negative offsets. Pricey, but at least they're in the UK. 4. Banded steelies. The only recentish car I can see that has 15" or 16" steelies in 114.3 is the Volvo S40/V40 and they aren't pretty for banding. Steelies are heavier than alloys. 5. Diamond Racing steel wheels. Could be pricey shipping 'em from the US, and I need to make sure my measurements are correct.
I don't mean to seem tight, but I do think there is nearly always an economical way to achieve these things without just throwing money at a problem.
Bstardchild. Polo 6N heater : I like that a lot. If that blower out on the left is drawing air from above that could be a win. The Scimitar has an air chamber that runs the full width of the scuttle, so that could work very nicely indeed.

This weekend's work....... Modify the gear-shift linkage. This is just made for cutting to length to suit. Before. After. Just tacked for now, and that tab at the rear is just perfect for a bobbin to mount to the tunnel. In place. Gearbox mount made. I didn't quite get the Omega mount to sit right onto the Scimitar cross-member, so had to make a small extension. It's fitted now, so the engine and gearbox are now both in place.

Your assesment of the blower inlet is correct and the heater in and out water pipes are central behind the controls but are top exit

Oh and those R28 gearbox linkages are really fussy things to set up if you've broken the spline - I ended up buying the proper Vauxhall Kent and Black tool when I did an slush to stick conversion on a Senator 24V years ago.
Pretty sure I've got some good instructions written down somewhere for getting it close without the tool

Thanks for that callumaspinall. I might need custom adaptor/spacers, 'cos I'd really like to make my wheel choice hub-centric, and what I'm putting together is likely going to be a mish-mash. So last weekend I went looking for a Polo heater/blower. It's about as compact a unit as I've seen, but it's still too awkward for my space-limited tunnel. So all I achieved was deciding I'd come up with my own arrangement, and it looks like the Omega can provide the parts I need. I can carry on with rebuilding the tunnel. I've done it now while the chassis, engine and body are all together. Cardboard and packing tape should do well for a template. The hole will have a cover plate to allow access to the coil packs etc. at the rear of the engine. Glassing-up around midday today. It's cold so the resin is only greening-up now, several hours later , but it can cure nicely while I'm eating and drinking tomorrow. ;D

Keep up the good work, I'd forgotten to check back into this thread, it's coming along nicely now! Also I don't know how you're doing it, but these are some of the prettiest build thread photos I've seen, this is my new desktop!
