dazmax in da house: its a good old beast and I'm loathe to part with it.i just don't know what to do.
If it was my ride I would carefully remove all the chrome trim, sand the whole car down, repair all rust and the spray it in grey & red suede, polish and refit all the chrome trim, clean up the interior but keep it stock (maybe a Moon steering wheel and Berg shifter but that's it!!), give it a slight lowering and find some cool rims or just snap on some Moon Discs and drive it like that untill you can decide what to do, maybe get some more funds and give it a new coat of paint and restore it to it's old glory or just leave it as an Old School OEM+ in suede (Oh s*it I have created another corner in the VAG scene!?!?!) but please keep it clean, NO roof rack, NO bulky outside air con, NO nodding dogs, NO racing stickers, keep it simple stupid.....
DP says: It's way to nice of a car to do something non reversable to it.......

I can understand that it might be a little depressing seeing those bubbles when it was concourse a few years ago but I really don't think you've got it bad with those rust bubbles. I would definitely keep it looking nice, no point throwing the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to old dubs

Far too nice to rattle can IMHO, Satin paint looks best on totally straight Bodywork, that my whole understanding of the original hot rod ethos, the bodywork was done well and panelwork was straight, just no top coat.... it was kind of 2 fingers up to the Shiny new Brit sportscar preppy kids, low, fast, stripped out, chopped, channelled and straight bodywork just witthout the final shine ;D The whole "Just matt black it" treatment to any proper old sh!tter does not constitute either Rat or Mattblack Hot rod look. Agreed Patina is something to be preserved.... the car has gone through a lot of experiences to gain that, its part of its history and should be worn proudly ;D I don't get the "painted on Patina" of the Dub scene though.. If you are going to go to those lengths you may as well paint it properly I want to Satin paint the Spider, but the Body will be fixed and straight first ;D

7 years? 7 years is an awful long time in the life of paintwork on a classic car I'd get it painted properly, it looks really good otherwise

True,as I've said, not having a garage and the fact its been a daily driver for years,it'd be expecting a bit much for it still to be a minter.I've decided to let the paint age gracefully, lower it and enjoy ;D the mechanics are spot on and its only done 70,000 so theres plenty of life in the old dog yet

Considering the expected lifetime of all these old cars (certainly bodywise) when new I don't think you're suffering too badly after 7 years daily use

Went down the local Pub in it this afternoon,Stag on the river in Eashing (Dead posh ) for "early doors" as it was far too hot to ride the bike! there seemed to be some sort of back slapping office do going on in the tables surrounding the car park.As usual it was stuffed full of Bentleys,Porsche's,Mercs-you know the kind of thing. I was shocked when I pulled in, to be surrounded by suits (pretty curse word up mind) demanding to know what the funny old estate car was. its things like this that make me deffo want to get on and use it,considering that it received ten times the attention than a bloke that pulled in,in a new shape skyline(Looks like a Toyota Carina mind ) one up for the "ugly Duckling" ;D

LoL I think I'm going to keep a list in the glove box of all the crazy suggestions people come up with as to what the 411 is when it gets on the road. I know what you mean about the attention. The one trip the 411 has made to date under its own steam I was following in Keith's Benz. Every (and I mean EVERY) person we passed stopped, turned and stared at the 411. It did make me chuckle.
