Here is my new £250 automobile: That's right; it's a brown Austin Maxi 2 HL with a beige interior that has been off the road for 7 years. It will be my winter transport to save my lovely fresh mk1 Fiesta from the winter salt: Read all about the Fiesta here:When I get it transported back home I will post a more detailed reply, these are just the pictures from the advert and it actually looked better in real life than in the pictures. It's a 1750 and damn good condition, the only rust I could see was patches on both rear arches and a square sat right in the middle of the drivers side front wing just above the coach line. Wish me luck...

Brown Maxi's are for winnars ;D My very first car(when very VERY young) was a metalic brown "2" HLS with brown velour interior and twin-carb 1750.....i still miss it to this day Any plans of the modifying variety for this??

Might struggle to get it anywhere close to that low and still be able to move but nothing is impossible if your willing to put the effort in! For god sake don't do chrome wheels......in my eyes beige coloured banded steels would work well

With a quick clean up it will look 1000times better. The guy literally took pictures with 7 years worth of dust on it and 7 years worth of dead spiders in the interior. i went today and the rain had washed off some of the dust making it look much better already so a good couple of hours with a hoover, carpet shampoo and a bucket of water will make it look much more presentable. I also forgot to mention that the engine turns but there is no spark, so I expect that the condenser or something else in the distriubutor is knackered.

I very much aprove! If its been sat for that long check EVERYWHERE before you put it on the road, including the front subframe. They are very good at hiding suprises, like rot in the towers where the bottom arm mounts. If the towers fail, like one did with me once, its a fun ride to say the least! All the best of luck with it, if you need advice with it ill be happy to help.

Delightfully frumpy thing that is. Providing you can get it up to scratch, should be a good lazy winter set of wheels.

My dad had 2 Maxi's probably MK1's a Harvest Gold and a brown one like this. The first one ended up as an AUTSIN, the tailgate was repainted at the BL dealer and they out the letter on wrong...

Got it home today and after a quick wash and a T-cut its not looking so bad. The interior is pretty evil, we pulled 2 binbags worth of junk out of it, including a bag of old tights, a small model of a dog, a bottle of linseed oil and the boot was full of rat poison. And here is said boot, no rot back here... The interior: quite luxurious, but really dirty still after a substantial hoovering session. I don't think it had been cleaned for 21 years as I was pulling out scraps of newspaper from 1990, although everything is in good condition and standard original. But there is right in the middle of the drivers front wing. And the drivers rear arch looks pretty knackered aswell. All the doors except the drivers door are ruined at the bottoms unfortunatly. Think this will have to be a bodge unless I can find some new doors going cheap. The passenger arch is much better with just rust on the lip, its the same on the front wing. The passnger wing mirror seems to have no paint on it at all., maybe from stone chips as despite showing 44,222 miles I found the service history up to 132,000. And the engine bay, a new one was fitted at 80,000 miles but it currently has no oil and no spark, a job for my next day off.

I like that a lot. Quality find, they are a smashing motorway mile muncher with that five-speeder. Colour is BL Russet Brown, which invariably got changed to Gusset Brown for obvious reasons.

Today: new points, condenser, plugs and leads, a couple of new fuel lines and it started and ran like a dream on the first turn of the key. I am chuffed, especially as it is running on 9 year old petrol. Just need to attack the interior with some upholstry cleaner and some oust and sort out the rear arch and door bottoms and she's good to go.

Doesnt look too bad at all, all the rust is completly normal and typical for a Maxi. Ive just made a start on the blue one in this picture, after selling the sandglow one yesterday after 22 years of ferrying me all over the country. Part of me feels a little bit broken, but I love Maxis, and I still have one. A special one.

I now have working indicators, and have tuned teh carb slightly, well it no longer leaks anyway and idles really well. I may also have found someone who may know where some doors are, but I ithink I will try and repair what I have got, once I work up the nerve to remove the tape from the bottom of them. Otherwise, I have started cleaning the interior, it looks no cleaner and smells just as bad but I now have buckets of filthy water so I guess I muct be getting somewhere with it. It may need going over a few times I think. Should be good for an MOT try out pretty soon.

Digging about on the interwebs I found this from an old RR post. Photoshop and an earlier Maxi, but I failed at finding a later Maxi to chop for you. Still, that Audi seems like a good place to start, I imagine a Maxi that low would look pretty tough with the later bumpers yours has.
