Hi guys, I'm 16 and ive just joined this forum as I bought an old puch maxi a few weeks back for my first moped and I saw daveyboys project, that inspired me to blog my project up on here I may need to ask a few questions about things in the future but ive mainly took things apart and learnt how things work myself (also broke a few things) I've ordered a new ignition coil, points and condenser and spark plug, leads etc.. so whilst i'm waiting for them I thought I might get some pics up of what ive done so far! when I first got it: ill post some more pics up when I get time

Bloody hell you don't hang about! ;D Best way to learn is to strip it & learn how it goes together, top marks for being brave and wading in to it like you have done.

Yeah headlight is the right one... Its an early one so its got some differences. Like the engine for example with the strange arrangement that prevents you from adjusting/ replacing the clutch without splitting the case Ive got a magnum kickstart engine for sale if you want one?

Thanks guys i got it running today, sounds beasty but my condensor keeps coming loose All my new ignition parts came today and when i went to fit the new condensor, it wouldn't fit in the hole so i rammed it in tight, and after a few runs its come pretty loose Retrowagen thanks for the offer but I'm out of money now haha and i haven't seen a maxi with this headlight yet so thats probably why i thought it wasn't original but thanks anyway Cheers Jake

if the condensor keeps coming out. Just wire it outside the magneto and onto the frame somewhere. Thats what i did. The heat inside the mag burns em out pretty quick anyway.

Thanks guys, and redgt i know how it feels its devastating! anyway, ive come with an idea which i don't thinkwill work but it might. Thats why ive come back on here to ask. Basically, ive got a lamp that looks like this: Its a halogen light and ive wired it all up and works fine, just wondering if it would be okay and pass its MOT? also another question, i REALLy want this bike to pass it's MOT so i want to make sure everything is perfect, so is there any things i should double check etc? Thanks everyone, this should hopefully be on the road soon!

Check its straight.
Put two scaffold boards or somthing on the floor, Either side of the bike and push them against the wheels.
If theres any gaps it isnt straight.
This could be somthing as simple as the rear wheel being adjusted wrong/ spacer in the wrong place. Or as bad as a twisted frame..
That and make sure everything is done up tight. 20 mins with some spanners will make sure its all solid. And will save you from any broken bones if somthing was loose.
Oh and make sure you have both main and dipped beam...

Thanks retrowagen, i can make sure everythings tight etc but the light is worrying me. When i got the bike, it had that round bulletshaped light which had no main or dipped beam so I'm a bit stumped

Ah if main isnt fitted and you just have a dipped light. Then you should be fine.
Trying to think but you might be ok with that foglight. you have^^ Mine doesnt focus and thats an original puch one. So you should be ok.
Either that or buy a cheapy round headlight for it off ebay?
