I was just sorting through my scale replica (read toy!) police car collection, when i noticed some facts on the Triumph Dolomite box.Apparently, these were considered such a high performance vehicle, that you had to be an "A" class driver with at least five years experience to get behind the wheel of one! Just makes you wonder what they would have thought of the high performance police cars of today. The craziest being the Lambo the Italian plod use. Still they did have some sense,on the marina box,it says that it was trialled for two months then rejected due to its"alarming" characteristics at speed! Gulp! ;D

Gulp! ;D Slight misconception there with the Marina! Yes it was tested and rejected by one constabulary but only because it was a first year production car with "Suicide suspension". On the later cars they changed the geometry of the leaver arms and uprights so that it cured the understeer on the cars. Oxford police then used the TC's quite successfully after that. Really they should have used the S/T tuning manual and fitted telescopic dampers but hey! This is British Leyland we are talking about now! Ben

In the 70's West Midlands seemed to run Triumph 2000 Pi's as their 'fast' cars, and bizarrely MGB GT's too.... both capable of 100mph or thereabouts. Which is less than a regular 2006 patrol car, say your modern day Focus diesel. However judging by the amount of fully-stickered ex-police salvage i see in various yards then I'd say driving standards haven't improved too much!

And some more of the RS200... Not just a publicity stunt as many think, it was actually used as a high speed pursuit vehicle by the Essex force for some time, but was retired due to being too costly to maintain and run.

is this a ford publicity shot, pulling over an rs500? essex police had a 6r4 metro to catch the m25 racers. apparently it was the biggest cause of sick notes ever. 45 mniutes was about all the drivers could take in one hit, apparently because of the noise.

Dolly sprints were quick, and very advanced for their day!
Us Brits have a Lambo in this country too! But a Murcielago!! It was at the start of the gumball 3000 thingy a while back. There's been allsorts, Escort cossies, Evo's etc. Herts police have a new Porsche 911 atm, quite surprising what hey have, but most of the plod can't drive for love nor money! Obviously the ones that do advanced driving courses can, supposedly!!
