thats shocking, they look badly made looking at that pic, is there only 1 rivet on each spoke? that could have been sooooooooo bad glad it went when it did, not that it should have gone at all.

Flippin' 'eck I'd taken my Mountney wheel off escRot anyway, but it won't be going back on ever again judging by that. Very lucky mate, its too scary to even consider it failing under different circumstances...

if they send one its gettin given away/sold! Make sure its to an enemy and not a friend! Shocking. Was it yours from new or could it have some dubious history that could have lead to a failure? Fortunately steering is normally at its greatest load at slow speed manoeuvers.

I'm a little glad I chose the Mota Lita item over one of those now (getting a brand new 'wheel seemed damn tempting!). At least you were safe and sound .

Jeebus H Crust! I always thought the spokes and rim were one piece, not some shonky bodge job. How can they sleep at night knowing that a key component of your steering system is that badly made?

I bought it brand new for Tom from a small car shop in Scarborough who is a proper Mountney dealer. Ive had 4 wheels myself from there before and never had any problems. Id get it sent back to Mountney and complain Cant believe thats happened

Christ mate - glad it happened at low speeds. That's terrifying!
Get a Momo....

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

As Seth says, I think the combination of no PAS, wide wheels and not much movement of the car (i.e it wasn't driving at speed) meant the forces required to turn the wheel were too much for where the wheel rim attaches to the spokes. I wouldn't be too worried as in normal driving, the weight of the steering would never be that heavy to snap it like that.
That said, I'd get a Moto-Lita replacement, their wheels are stamped from one piece of metal (rim and spokes as one) before it is pressed over a buck to create dish.
