Hi Guys I`ve just bought a spare pair of Hijet leafprings to play around with I know you can remove one of the bottom leaves can i remove both? If i remove the springs do i have to make up spacers to take up the space in the spring clamps? And lastly the bolts holding the leaves together have broken (they don't have a bolt head on one end though just a round head) Could i drill out the broken bolt and replace it wiith a standard hi-tensile bolt? Cheers Adrian

1.- you can but i wouldnt recommend it. they're overload spring, to stop the springs deflecting too far. if they do, they're likely to snap. id only remove the longer one.
2.-yes. or shorten your U-bolts accordingly. id just cut down the remaining bit of leaf into a mini lowering block, and flip it to the top of the spring pack.
3.yes. they don't even really need to be- hi-ten. tbh. if i need to replace them, i usually use allen capscrews with the head tuned down to the correct OD, as you can hold em with an allen key to tighten them up then.

Thanks Dez I`m going to have a go at de-cambering the springs as well, My mates got a pipe bender which he reckons will work well,
What should i do about the clamp on the end of the shortest spring as it will be to long when the overload spring has been removed,
As my axle is under the springs would it effect how much i can lower it if i refit a short piece of spring to the top of the spring pack?

you should be able to do them with a pipe bender, yes. be very methodical in how you do it though, and make sure the curvature is 100% the same side for side.
just redrill the holes for the bolt a little lower down on the clamp so it sits down against the spring as it should.
nope, wont effect it, will give you a extra little bit of drop for free, providing it doesnt get in the way of anything, which i doubt it will if its an axle-under setup.

Thanks Dez
Just checked out the clamp and all it does is hold the brake pipe,It does`nt clamp the springs in any way,
I`ve read online about fitting some kind of plastic between the leaves to help them work do you thing its needed or just some decent grease??
I`ll post some piccies when they are done
Cheers Adrian
