Hi Rich,
Thanks for the suggestion. Someone else mentioned it over the weekend but I ruled it out for a number of reasons. Mainly, the time effort and cost involved in making one only for it to crack or shatter the first time it hits anything.
The Puma bumper is very flexible and should resist a few bumps and scrapes much more than fibreglass...and if it does decide to break, then they are very cheap and easy to get hold of from a Puma being broken. Cutting an original bumper down to fit the Ka is a lot less work than making another one in fibreglass even with a complete mould ready made. Especially now that we know exactly how to get it all apart and where to cut etc...
The nice thing is that it flexes with the Ka bumper too, so the two move the same whereas GRP would be more rigid and would move differently when fixed against the Ka bumper.
I did say to the guys at the weekend that when this is nearer completion I will probably just buy another Puma bumper along with some Ka arches to keep as spares - they fit on really easily and are so cheap to buy, it makes sense to have some spares in stock in case any get damaged.
There will be GRP (more likely carbon) splitter made for the bottom of the bumper, but this will be mounted in such a way that it will also have a bit of give too.

Glad you like it guys There won't be much happening with the car now until the September weekender, but once we are back on it, I am confident that there will be lots to report. I found a few pics on Ratters FlickR page which I guess counts as part of the build - a couple of shots of me carefully labelling every wire as it comes out of the car. I didn't even know you'd taken them Lee! Just found them by accident when looking at the shots you took at the weekend.

I've taken the liberty of copying these shots taken by Lee (Ratters) over the weekend. Stunning photography and I am sure he won't mind me posting them up? of course i don't mind bruce that's why i took them to share the work on the Ka/Arae52 in general!!

Thanks again for the comments guys. Richard, that Ka Estate really shouldn't work and I'm not 100% on the rear overhang/arch/bumper section, but overall, I LOVE it! The shape translates really well into a more-door format, certainly more than I would have ever expected. The 3L one reminds me of something from the set of Demolition Man - functionality and sci-fi all rolled into one. The Seatta is a car I always liked. I remember seeing it when it was shown around the time the Ka was launched. It's always reminded me of a smaller, sharper version of the Ghia Focus (early 90's) which is one of my fave concept cars of all time. The 'jowels' of the Ghia Focus have obviously been a strong inspiration for the styling on the front bumper of the Puma and it was this particular styling feature I wanted to transpose to the Ka. A little nod to one of my fave concept cars within the build rather than just wanting to hint at the source of the donor powerplant. Karlos, I remember the feature (don't know why....I never bought Max Power!). I didn't remember the colour, but remember the feature of the Puma fronted Ka. Wasn't really a fan then and still not a fan now. I prefer the Ka styling to the Puma, but always liked the bumper of the Puma for the reason mentioned above. I guess I've got the best of both now ;D

Your bastardized front bumper has no right to look that good, again, your vision is what is going to make this build.

right OK just because there are so many nice kas on here I thought I'd add my faves. Anyone ever heard of the DJM ka. Fitted complete with a cosworth engine and running gear ;D obviously on a completely different finacial scale to your project but I thought worth a look and the tale says that Colin McRae himself was so interested in the build of it that they decided to build his very own car based upon the ka....thus the Colin McRae R4 was born

The DJM Ka actually used EVO running gear as it is designed for a high power transverse engine.
Thoroughly epic cars (Ka's?) !
