Not sure if this has been on here before. After building a string of show winning hot rods/custom cars Nick Butler formed the Gold Car Company and began designing the Cirrus. The car used a composite bodyshell on a steel frame chassis, with a mid mounted 3.9 Rover V8 sending drive to all 4 wheels via a custom transaxle. The radiator was mounted in the rear, and the cut outs in the rear pillars twisted the air to direct it onto the louvres in the engine cover. It got brilliant reviews at the time, as the handling was fantastic. Would be nice to find some of the original magazine reviews of it. Matt

Interesting machine, especially the running gear, and far better styled than the vast majority of that ilk too

One panel for the whole front end? It's cool though, I'd hate to try and get spares for one.

IIRC, one was featured in Performance Car or Fast Lane back in the 80's.

Sorry for bumping such an old thread but it saves starting a new one and there's already some cool pics in here to start with. Anyway, I'm doing some research on the red one and trying to find out where it is, if it still survives, and also if the uncompleted white body/chassis unit is still residing with it or if was parted out into separate ownership. It was for sale in this ad but I don't know how long ago that was and there's no contact details on there. Nick's also lost contact with him so I was hoping some knowledgeable folk on here may be able to help. Anyone seen it/them surface on any forums? Heard whispers down the pub? We know where the gold one is so it would be great to find the other one and the uncompleted one!

Would be good to find out where that is. Stiff does Nick have any update on the Wolfrace Sonic rebuild? I know it was happening and even saw a couple of sneaky pictures, but other than that it has all be quite for the last two years, didn't know if anyone was in touch with the current owners. Also never be sorry to bump old threads, I actually missed this thread the first time around and have just learned about the car!

I've never heard of them either.... which implies to my mind they never exactly troubled the manufacturers sales figures year after year. Looks like a Fiero rear-ended a C4 'vette. Dunno if that's in a good way or not Weird

Thank god they dropped that top-gear format. I nearly expired! Let’s be honest, they could do with dropping TG full stop

Funny you should mention Sonic as that's another one I'm trying to chase up. We're not sure whether Sonic did actually sell or not. There were whispers that the money didn't change hands after the auction finished but whether that's true or not is anyone's guess. I've messaged Pete, the seller, on ebay as his 'account' is still active but he's not actually been active for over a year. Still waiting to hear back if he's still got it or it did indeed sell to a new owner. If you have any info regarding it since the auction ended I'd love to hear from you (Drop me a pm if you'd rather keep any personal info quiet)

I've just found this bumped thread. I happen own the gold coloured car, which was Nick's prototype and labour of love in the late 80s. I am also curious about the red one, which has a much cleaner looking rear end on it! Hopefully the owner will find this thread at some point too.
There is some really interesting engineering and packaging in this car, not all of it easily accessible of course. An amazing achievement really.

That's just brought back memories of many hours spent playing Outrun in the 90's, the back end is almost identical.
