Apologies for thread dredging here, I haven't posted on RR for a loooonnnnnngggggg time but I'm finally thinking about buying a new car so thought I'd better show my face a bit! Here's a work in progress, the first of nine - I'm painting a series of classic wheels, Ford for a kick off: Lotus Cortina first! Anth

That Bugatti is astonishing Cool thread to revive, this one! There's so much amazing artwork on here I'm almost embarrassed to put my own humble scrawls up. Almost, but not quite, lol Mine tend to be as one-offs for friends who want their car (or whatever) commemorated, so they're a bit random. Rather than doing my own choice, which would probably be terrible. Corrado Francis-Barnet (ask your dad, lol) GT40 on-track at Goodwood (sorry about the curse word scans, some of the softer pencil really didn't survive computerisation) Fast Freddie before he became Fat Freddie A mate's RX-7 in pen... ...and pencil; Quick cartoon of my own car commemorating 1000 posts on the FDUK forum. Haven't had the time to do one for the subsequent 11000 A mate's Hahhhhnda (of the two-wheeled persuasion) King Carlos of Fogarty winning at Brands (at last!) Couple of "in-progress" ones... Lady Di's FD RX-7 and Madame le Jo's RX-4 Since those were done at least a year apart, we can conclude the only constant in art (at least in my ouvre) is a Spaceman 3 CD! Live in Europe 1989, one of the best live bands on the best live CD ever pressed. Buy it, lol

Three new ones from over the Christmas period Richar Pettys 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner SoCal speedshop 1947 Belly Tanker - blueprint style sketch all created from vintage photo reference, tried to get it as close as possible (although I know it ran aero wheel covers when it was sprayed red, only had the small caps when it was white and gold. But it looked nicer in side view like this!) 1947 Chevrolet Fleetline Aerosedan All work copyright Michael Gillett 2013 and 2014, no reproduction without permission.

Beautiful work Michael, particularly the belly tank! What do you use in your work? Wasn't sure whether it was pencil or pastel (or both).

Beautiful work Michael, particularly the belly tank! What do you use in your work? Wasn't sure whether it was pencil or pastel (or both). Thanks, the belly tank was hard work as well! Amazing lack of decent engine images online to use for reference. I use wax pencil, very rarely pastel (none on these three), all on Canson Mi-Tientes coloured paper. This is the paper that stylists used in all of the big OEMs globally from the 50s through to the 70s. Something I was taught to use learning automotive design at uni and now like to keep alive as a hobby in the afternoon, whilst I use all the modern methods in my day job! Now THIS is automotive art. How very refreshing. Thanks for the appreciation Hopefully there will be some more Guild of Motor Artists exhibitions this year where my work will be on display if anyone wants to see it in person.

Don't know of any highstreet art shops that sell it, except for Coventry Universitys art shop (at least when I was there a few years ago) for the auto design students. I buy it online from Pullingers art shop - www.pullingers.com/P~CA0321xxx~Canson-Mi-Teintes-Paper-A3--(297mm-x-420mm)-160gsmThey're very good. Always comes well packaged.

Thanks to uncleterry for his motivational drawings and tips, I also got back to drawing. However, I changed my pen to stylus. This R11 was done freehand in Photoshop Elements: Now I have a friends Valiant which I am drawing, and doing that with Autodesk sketchbook as I has the curve thing which makes it easier to draw round shapes like tyres.

I've been going through some of my old artwork today. I must get back to the drawing board. I'll post more when I get the chance, but they are A3 size and a bit tricky to scan.
