Heres one i prepared earlier Wilko bbq paint rollered on finished with CROWN gloss yellow accents(keen car fans might have seen the gloss yellow splashed on my black nova ) He drives this to swansea everyday and if you look close you can see the dents in the front wing from the shotgun blast Was the best spent two hours on a sunday afternoon ever.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Are you a goat or is it just getting late? This is the best picture I've got so far, I'll take some more soon and do a proper thread in readers rides, but basicly we just rubbed the whole car down with scotch pads and wet and dry paper then wiped it over with tak rags then sprayed away. The key to getting a good finish is plenty of prep and remove anything that you don't want painted.

STOP! I thought that £550.00 was a fair price as it's not been used for a couple of years and still has a few niggles to sort out, including the clutch which started to slip on the way to C.a.R.s (Only on hard acceleration mind), but it does have 12 months mot and six months tax, 2 brand new toyota wings, late model interior, 4 new tyres, brand new Pi lowering springs, Stainless exhaust, Braided brake hoses, 4 Black dimond drilled and grooved discs and a new kenwood c.d player. If I put a new clutch in it and fit the new wheels which have just turned up from Italy then I'll need to see about £800.00 just to break even. Sorry to thread jack, I'll do my own when it's finished ;D ;D CARRY ON!

putting too much effort/money into ratlook sorta defeats the object, my car is sorta ratlook i guess cos its in primer, and i literally did it the cheapest way i could 2.5l tin (still 3/4 left ) of grey oxide primer, one already used decorating brush. and one sunday afternoon with nothing better to do.
looks great from 20yds, looks curse word upclose cos i just brushed over bits by accident and missed bits, but it serves a purpose in that it looks a dam sight better than the filthy white that it was.

idea stolen from rattely eddie.

i totally love that nova 10 hours of hand sanding 40 mins of spraying i had this sudden thought why didnt i laqour it when it was sanded or primered it and laqoured it, i think i need to lightly spray grey primer all over it ;D good luck

Like this you mean....Nice huh?

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Don't use Jawel paint, it's absolute curse word. Their 2-pack doesn't harden off properly so I wouldn't trust their celly either. I'd only use it for underneath or bike frames to be honest. Spend a bit extra and get Lechlar or Max Meyer, then if you change your mind later about the finish you won't have to strip it all off.

robmorris in da house: Rat look - best paint to use? When using flat or satin paints remember that they don't seal against the surface, they will let moisture go trough the paint and if there's even a microscopic remnant of rust it will blead through in a verry short time. When I redid my grey suede on the Skoda Shop Hack I painted every surface that was bare metall, old repairs or where I cut through the paint to the metall (not hard on a Skoda with the worlds worst paintjobs) with grey Hammerite gloss to seal of but I can already see 2 or 3 spots where I missed this and will go over them a soon as I have time, if you don't seal the car will look real bad in no time but on the other hand if you are doing Rat who cares...... After one winter in suede..... Fresh coat of suede..... DP says: I'd like to call the Shop Hack OEM+ in suede but I'll be lynched by the OEM+ squad if I set foot on your shores....

Satin is shinyish right? Then surely matt or chalkboard is the way to go, and if you ever need to re spray it - it's 100quid at a push and a weekend of work max.

this was my nissan sunny affectionatley known as the skumbag. it had appaling fuel economy from the 1.4,averaging 25mpg. the exhaust was blowing when i got it so i put a shiny chrome trim on the end. the paint was white, but i bought 4 cans of tetrosyl satin black and some red smoothrite, some viva hub caps and created the miracle you see before you. i also added a drug rug on the rear seats and scary head bob,the shrunken head mascot that now resides on my lexus. I welded the hubcaps on for extra enjoyment. I also chopped the rear coils in situ and then discovered that the car sat on the bump stops. I'd like to say the car handled much better for this, but all it meant was that you couldn't have anyone in the back. Also adding to the driving fun lovement was the knackered steering which was drier than a lizards . thus making turning a lovely crunch nightmare. I sprayed the car with some metalflake which only ruined the fine satin black paint. The car eventually die in a car park in stafford. I miss it.
