hehe, check the specs for a vauxhall 1256 (viva/chevette) engine - that says to set them to 12 thou with the engine running  I'm sorry but how the heck do you do that Lol it's one if those jobs tha the first time you do it you laugh your head off at the ridiculousness of it then the next time it's not so funny and from then on you just learn to do it by ear ;D Theres a few you used to do running but cant remember off the top of me head TBH i used to do the cologne while it was running and just adjust till it stops tapping  |

The Vauxhall slant-4 manual tells you to do with with the engine running. This is an overhead cam engine, so your feeler gauges are between the cam and the follower. Must get expensive in feeler gauges.

I don't think you are meant to put feeler gauges in on a running engine... like rob says, adjust with it running until they go quiet (but still runs on 4) then stop the motor and check the gaps.

Oh, I did my HA Viva with the motor running and with feelers. Its the only car I recall doing that way. And I'm not saying its right but its how I was told to do it. I've had plenty of Vauxhall slant 4s and I'm sure I did them "static" as it were.

Your supposed to do the desoto running aswell, only it's a side valve and you need to remove the inlet and exhaust manifolds to adjust it! Lol
