I kind of noticed it was Touring Car Week so thought I'd try to find out some information about the Datsun Bluebird that Graham Goode raced in '84 and '85 in the British Saloon Car Championship (Class B - 1600-2500cc).
Firslty, getting information about the car has been difficult and I'm hoping to have more details in due course. I have however pulled together a little historic timeline.
First year was '84, competing in all rounds with the following results:
'84 Round 1 18/6
'84 Round 2 14/5
'84 Round 3 12/2
'84 Round 4 13/5
'84 Round 5 Retired
'84 Round 6 11/1
'84 Round 7 Retired
'84 Round 8 Retired
'84 Round 9 7/1
'84 Round 10 6/1
'84 Round 11 Disqualified
So in '84 Graham came first in Class B in 3 races, came 3rd overall (in class) and 7th overall!
Next year, '85, Graham competed in rounds 1-10. I don't have each race result, but I have found out he won in his class in the following rounds:
'85 Round 1
'85 Round 2
'85 Round 4
'85 Round 7
'85 Round 10
So, some damn good results I'd say! It had its first class win coming by the middle of the '84 season and it did pretty well during '85 until Richard Longman's Escort RS Turbo appeared.
There were a few issues with the rule book along the way (not being able to run with the intercooler in '85). Graham skipped the last 2 rounds in '85. He then reappeared with his well known Sierra Cosworth for '87.
The Bluebird was sold on to Kevin Eaton who ran it '87 in 5 rounds out of 12, but painted plain white and sponsored by East Midlands Transport (no pics yet).
It was then sold on after '87, but I haven't been able to find what competitions it took part in after that, or if the car still exists.
As for the car itself I don't know much about its engine and mechanics. Probably either a Z18ET (1770cc) or a turbo'd L18 (also 1770cc). If anyone has any info I'd be really interested to hear of anything.
As for my 2 Datsuns... maybe I should make a replica lol
Oh and some pics:
