An unlikely car for touring car racing? Maybe, but in the 90s, touring cars were BIG and most countries had a championship - America included. The 1997 North American Touring Car Championship raced on road courses and were full of typical European and Japanese touring cars like the Accord, BMW 3-series, Cavalier etc, most were ex-BTCC cars. But the Chrysler Stratus was a home-brew car to take on the establishment. It was a huge car, bigger than even the TWR 850, but was packing a 2 litre engine with 240hp through its front wheels, with a 6sp sequential gearbox. They raced for two seasons in the NATCC before the team was disbanded and the cars sold. A few went to Europe and one appeared in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, most went to South America. And if you want to see more of the NATCC, watch this and the related videos.

those Stratuses (Strati?) are apparently really rather competent road cars.

I'm sorry, I just can't let this happen! Chrysler Stratus just sounds so wrong! it's a Dodge Stratus, the Chrysler was called a Cirrus and the Plymouth version was called the Breeze.

indeed its a Dodge in its home market but I'm pretty sure they sold them in mainland Europe as a Chyrsler. Same deal with the Neon which was a Dodge back in the USA.

[/pedant] True, my wife had a Breeze as her first car. I forget what happened to it, I think it ended up being wrecked because it used to be driven, erm, fast. I just showed this thread to my work colleagues and they all agreed it is full of win. --Phil
