Just thinking out loud... Should I shift the Ventora on and use the cash/space to acquire that '81 Granada 2.8GL I saw in autotrader? This means I'd have a working car, could go to CARS, wouldn't have to muck about actually finishing the never ending Vauxhall, and won't have to be looking at the ropey job I did on the paint every day when I go to work. Plus the Grandma has power steering and an auto box in it, both of which are good for city commuting. On the other hand the Granada isn't free road tax. I'd look like a pub landlord and would spend half my life worrying it was going to get nicked. Theres also a 1980s Oldsmobile 88 on eBay for £495 with no bids, although its a wrong wheel drive one. Good comfy daily though, but rather dull interior and driving experiance. I am perhaps in a more bummed mood than normal because I had to come to work on the bus today.

Yeah you've put too much into the Ventora to not see it through. I was thnking the same with my Anglia but I'm on the last stretch now so I HAVE to see it finished ;D
You could always give it a quick blat over with satin which happens to be fashionable at the moment. Come back to do a good paint job later?

A fwd 1980’s oldmobile sounds like the absolute rock-bottom pits of motoring to me, that fact that you would even consider it is a bad sign… chivvy on with the Ventora, don’t give up on it now! Its gonna be super cool man.

Yeah, easy for us to say but I vote to finish the ventora!
Know just how it feels to run out of momentum on a project when things start going wrong though, you ust have to muster all the will power you can to power through the dark times and get her finished. Bet once you get all the brightwork back on it will give you another lift, and thats not too much work away....

Aaagh! The Olds sounds like you despirately need some finished Retro, but finish the Ventora IMO. Granada sounds cool but only to replace summat else, not the Vento, be worth it when its done. Its easy to wonder, for the money alone i have spent on the '2 i could of got a working one for that! but if it gets an MOT i'll be well chuffed.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I have an unhealthy obsession with the Ventora shape, and it just gets worse every time I see yours. Sell it to me, I'll not do anything to it for five years and it'll rot away, wasting all your time and effort... Do you really want that? 2.8i Granada? Pah, sharp suits, Get Carter'esque feel. Ventora all the way.
Now come on man, get it done. Flat the paint back and seal it for that california sunburnt appearance if you're that worried about the look... But please do it

Keep the Ventora.
The Granada would probably only be the start of another project anyway, which would put you even further away from being on the road.

Mmm. no meetings Friday, might take the day off and put the clear on. I was even thinking of just running it in the basecoat satin stylie... not waterproof though so rust in no time no doubt. truth to tell its the clear I don't want to be doing. Had a chat with the neighbours last night and they're "not that bothered so long as its not the sort of paint you need a respirator for. Anything which you can apply with a charcoal mask is safe enough"
Basically as she's in environmental enforcement she knows her stuff and can smell different types of solvent out!
So theres me saying "yeah, it was just a basic acrylic and solvent" and knowing the next stage is frickin 2 pack clear.
Wish I'd just bought 1K lacquer now. Its not the stuff for a good finish but I've blown that now anyway.
Anyone want 5 litres of 2K clear, 2.5 litres of activator, nice stuff. unopenned £30 the lot.
I could just go out in to the garden and burn my money that would be easier.

Keep the Vent. You have reached the fluff point. "do I cut my losses?" You could, but you could also lose a testicle, and when it comes time to do the deed, both will hurt.
I know that feeling. I've been there much too often, and always given in because of space/money. If you have some of one or the other, keep it.

Alistair, Bring it to CARS and I`ll have the 2K off you, ;D If you have a local "Brown Brothers" they do a decent Carplan 1K laquer, no thinners no hardener, just pour and shoot.... goes on lovely as well I use it when I only have a little bit to do or don't want the hassle of 2K HTH Dom

I was thinking of going to a 1K clear, I've used it many times and it works OK, but I get p!ssed off when it dulls out, which they always do, and its a fairly long window before you can cut & buff anyway. Not sure if I'm going to make it to CARS now. Might just bite the bullet and go with the 2K clear. Dunno, problem is they are both in lots as she's on maternity and he works from home now. How inconsiderate...

There ya go! sounds like you've got the motivation creeping back! You'd only regret selling it anyway! just like the V8 one... Its going to be ace when its done! as soon as the brightwork is back on, and it looks like a car again - you'll not notice the odd blemish in the paint I'm sure! Did you get the olds gearbox issue sorted in the end? should that filter have fitted?
