Hey guys, having insurance issues and have to have a cat 2 system fitted at least. Anyone have any experience? Not allowed to fit it myself something to do with them sending a certificate or some nonsense. The car is totally customised so I feel if I give it to someone to do the job they'll have a license to print money in terms of what they'll charge me. You know, if they have to take the dash out it wont be the normal procedure as it's unique same goes with any wiring they'll need to splice into to fit the wires... Not sure really what the best option would be, has anyone else had similar experience or have any advice? Not the most interesting of posts but I'll appreciate any input

When I bought my car I had basically zero sevice history on it. It had a Laserline alarm/immobilizer fitted already but I had nothing to send to the insurance company to prove it was there (and it was what i said it was).
A phone call to Laserline later pointed me to an approved installer that could come out to me to check it over and make sure it was installed correctly. The guy wrote a certificate for me there and then when he was done. Cost £60 iirc, but I imagine it saved me a load of trouble.

Thanks for the input mate, always something else to fleece you eh? Anyone know how important the amount you say your car is worth to the insurer? If for example you said it's worth X amount, if it gets nicked they won't just give you X will they? So what does if matter? Or if you say it's worth 20 quid will they never give you more than 20 quid if it goes missing? There's a limi you see at which they demand the cat2 system.

I remember when my dad bought his australian mitsubish sigma estate, He couldnt get it insured unless there was an imobilisor fitted. Luckily the previous owner had allready fitted a real high end TOAD one. We had to get hold of the previous owner to get the docs for the install. Then send copies to the insurer. Oh and it was insured for £500... Oh yeah and the insurers excuse made me laugh... Supposedly (even though theres only like 10 of them over here) They are a target for criminals to steel and use as ram raiding vehicles what a load of curse word

Took all of 10 minutes to disable it with a penknife and some sticky tape including time to find it and dismantle the dashboard carefully, so I definitely wouldn't rely on one for anti-thievery.
