Oils - always a lively debate
I use semi synth 10/40 for all my senator and Polo - in fact anything not overly stressed and change it every 3000 miles regardless it's only £5.50 for 5L
I use mobil 1 10/40 for the LC (cos thats whats been in it from new - not original spec Elf) it gets chaged every 2000 miles regardless - I buy stock every time I go to France call it duty paid or profit free so it doesn't hurt too bad
I use Millers 20/60 competition full synthetic for the Monza now cos i blew it up on 10/40 semi and i'm not doing that again!!! change interval to be decided but if it gets to 3000 miles without going bang I'll buy some more!!! (I can half fill the tank for the price of 5 litres!!!)
Oils I have a simple theory
If it's been using Brand Y in XX/XX since new keep with it cos if it's lasted this long it''ll probably be fine - change it every 3000 miles and it'll live forever
If it's being used for extreeme use prolonged high rpm and high loads buy better oil and change it as often as you can afford to......
It's the only stuff that keeps the moving parts apart and regular changes win prizes
Magnatec - first hand experience of that stuff not going there again
Anyway this thread means nothing without pictures so heres a few
Inside head 100,000 mile dealer serviced on the button (9,000 mile intervals)
Close ups
Inside head 160,000 mile oil changes every 5,000 miles by owner (or me ) since 48,000 miles when he bought it
Close ups
And lastly in the interests of science
Pics of a head fully rebuilt after a chemical clean
Close up
I think it's a very graphic comparison - what do you think!!!!
