Please don't buy a Ka ck, If you want modernish yet slightly retro and therefore cool I'd go with a VW, something like a MK4 polo slammed on uber wide 13's with stretched rubber, along the lines of this: Back me up on this guyes, VW's are always retro at a younger age than other cars, and I'm not bias as I don't even own one!

My mate has one and it's the quickest thing i've ever been sat in around the "BIG ROUNDABOUT" near the flyover, just unbelivable handling . That said i would rather stick my head in a bucket of scat than own one but what do i know i drive a nova.

you can squeeze an RST into a Ka i wouldnt mind an early spec Ka as apparently they run the old 1.3 x'flow/valencia......twin webbers or maybe bike carbs

I think it maybe a P-shop? BTW I'm with DarrenW - I think KAs are cracking little cars, I would never see its design as being retro-influenced, in fact like the Puma & the original Focus the design has aged really well - the oldest ones will be nearly pushing 10 years yet still look fresh & imaginative. But the big thing for me about these cars is the way they drive & handle, so well - in a way that the equivilent small VWs of the same age cannot compete. I can see that owning & driving the right old car can be more cost effective than a modern but I think in this case the line is rather fine since you could pick a decent KA that you could just jump in and drive/wash occasionally for say £2K. Yet I think you'd have to choose very wisely to pick up the suitable retro machine that you could use with the same level of neglect/contempt on a daily basis. Even my Derby, brought with only 24,000 mile on the clock has required a level of tinkering replacing old original parts that the ravages-of-time have decayed - its all basic stuff but the cost of parts & amount of time spent on it soon mounts up - especially if you have a more prized retro in the garage in which buy parts for & spend time on.

We will have to agree to disagree on Ka's I hate them, but everyone is different (thankfully) Want a usable reliable retro for 2 grand............Buy a Beemer, honestly there are loads of people who drive 2002's as daily's and 2 grand gets quite a goood one.

An £800 E30 318 would be a better bet I reckon If I were looking for a cheap runner/motorway cruiser/parts lugger I think i'd be looking for a 405 Turbo Diesel Estate.

A keen eye Dan! It is indeed a photoshop, but only to lower it a bit as it was quite offensively high. The wheels were on the car using 4x100->5x130 adaptors. Going to be using them on the mk1 hopefully

Going to be using them on the mk1 hopefully I was in two minds at first - cos you can see the road through the spokes at the back - its just the 'Ghosting' around the tyres that gives it away. Looks good SteB - I reckon you should get the MK4 slammed & run those wheels for a bit How do they sit in the arches - should imagine they stick out abit with the adaptors?

hmm...if you've got the ability to buy a sportka, and will be doing motorway miles, then you should buy a Fabia RS. 50+mpg and good fun. Alternatively, from the seller of THAT metro come thisand even when it does break down, you'll still be smiling as you sip some champange in the back seats...

Here's my 2p worth:
The handling on a Ka is pretty good, and can be made better with aftermarket tuning bits. However, I've found the engines to be freakin' GUTLESS. They only feel fast because the body's made of 0.0000000000002mm gauge steel and your survival instincts tell you that at the speed you're going the car would be obliterated in a crash. Also, I think they must have sprayed all the bare shells over with sea water before painting them, as they rust within a couple of years. Not a bad looking car really, and I think a cleaned.be style approach to modding would see you just clear of barry territory. As for the sportka... they make them in Barbie pink. Nuff said.

Anglia engine, winner...
Basic mechanics... winner
Good styling, (I LIKE EM OK!), winner
Great handling when low (wheel in each corner)
Keep it subtle and its a good car.
