Right-o! I picked this up for my daily car in October last year, after my seemingly sensible purchase of a Peugeot 306 Tdiesel went awry when it threw a leg out of bed on the M4. Moving closer to work, reducing the 80 miles a day round trip to mere minutes I needed a small replacement that was practical, cheap, and frugal that didn’t have to be too tidy. Most of all though, I needed something sharpish so I found myself handing over money for what you see before you! Best laid plans and all that! That said, it’s proved it’s worth with the additional tow bar and cavernous interior coming to the rescue on more than one occasion.
The plan was to keep this going until the Chevette was back on the road, as a practical car capable of most things I’d ever need something with four wheels to do. But I hardly break double figures for my daily commute nowadays, and with the sun putting his hat back on, the bike has been put back into action and I’ve no longer the need to run something so large. It’s a great mile muncher that gets you and four others where you need to be in air conditioned/warmed to the cockles comfort and doesn’t cost the earth to run.
So what do you get? Well, quite a lot as it happens. Deep breath now... It’s fitted with ABS, air conditioning, alloy wheels, central locking, cruise control, front and rear armrests, Driver, passenger and side airbags, radio and CD player, front and rear headrest, electric door mirrors, front and rear foglights, heated door mirrors, electric front windows, auto dimming rear view mirror, height adjustable driver’s seat, PAS, steering wheel rake adjustment, steering wheel reach adjustment, space saver spare wheel, alarm with dead locking and separate boot opening circuit, Isofix child seat anchor points, service indicator, front and rear internal courtesy lights and trip computer.
The metallic silver comes up a treat with a bucket and a sponge and the alloys are all straight. It’s had the front two springs replaced as it appears GM were a little over optimistic on what weight the standard springs could cope with. I don’t think that the cold weather and the sorry state of most of this country’s roads helped, but both were close to the bone and with tales of them snapping rife on the forums, they’ve been replaced with a beefier aftermarket option. As you can see there are no lows here though. The Vectra rides at it’s standard height and whilst not exactly a go kart, the ride is smooth and sure.
There is no rust on the car, but there has been the odd altercation in car parks leaving a few marks on the bodywork. There is a mark dead centre on the rear bumper where it looks as though something has fallen whilst being lifted into, out of the boot. There is a one inch crease on the rear passenger side arch where someone got a bit close when reversing our of an adjacent space. To compound the bad luck a land rover reversed into the front and the tow bar has creased the front bumper right next to the numberplate recess but again, it isn’t anything more than an indentation and doesn’t detract from the overall great condition of the vehicle. I just want to be truthful so as you know what you’re coming to look at. It’s not concourse, but it’s very presentable and needs for no bodywork or paintwork if you can live with the few marks that really need looking for. I can get additional photos of these marks for any serious buyer. I do have the Vauxhall paintwork corrective pens for this paint code, that will go with the car, so there’s really only a few hours work to put the small things right.
The tow bar was professionally fitted [with receipts amongst the extensive paperwork] and the electrics on it all work as they should. I’ve towed a few things with it, and despite the lack of diesel grunt up front, it’s pulled domestic trailers, trailer tents, and, with my back against the wall for shifting a shell, a car on a trailer, with no trouble.
The only modifications on the car, are an cone K&N filter and upgraded bulbs in place of the driving lights and main beams. I have the original items in storage to go with the car when sold. The headlights can be adjusted for angle on the dash, but I’ve further altered these to illuminate more of the road, but still comply to an MOT. It’s a five minute job to change back but it’s a popular change with the Vectra-C owners on the forums, as they are notorious for having poor illumination as standard. I did entertain the idea of putting some sort of mark on it by running larger wheels and going a bit more VIP. My first idea was a set of 18” AMGs I had lying around, and a set of lowering springs. I ran these for a month whilst I sourced replacement uprated springs to replace the original items on the front, and loved the look of it, but the springs, wobble bolts and spigot rings have gone to pastures new, so it’s back on the original wheels, original locking wheel nuts and standard suspension.
The interior is massive, but mainly black plastic and vinyl with silver high lights. It’s in remarkably good condition with mats throughout protecting the carpet. The headlining is unmarked, and the dash and parcel shelf uncut but there are areas of everyday wear and tear on items regularly used. These are not broken, or even really damaged, but the sort of thing you’d notice when pointed out. It’s mainly the rubberised finish on the door pulls and fascia buttons that has lost it’s sheen through constant pressing. All electrics on the dash work as they should, and the steering wheel control buttons [cruise control and radio/CD controls] all work correctly. The dash indicator lights light up when starting, and go off as they should, and the door/boot open and seat belt undone warning light and sounder all function. There’s a cigarette lighter front and rear, although the car has never been smoked in [to my knowledge] as well as twin cup holders in the front and rear and a folding arm rest with cubby hole behind the middle seat.
I’ve photos of the interior and engine bay on my other camera, and will post those tomorrow, although please ask for any particular images and I’ll do my best to email them to you/post them up.
The car is currently taxed until the end of June this year, but I’ll stick another six months on at the buyers cost. Equally, the MOT is currently up but at the buyers cost I’ll stick twelve months on it and cover any work that is needed for a pass myself. There were no advisories on the last test and I’ve maintained the car myself this last year so am fully confident of a green slip.
Now, the extensive history for you, and believe me there is some. I have the V5C in my name, the car is registered and insured at my current address and can be test driven if you turn up with sufficient insurance coverage and sober.
I’m the fifth owner of the car, the fourth was my father. He bought it back in 2006 and is pretty fastidious about service history and the like so most of the paperwork stems from that point on. He bought the car from our local Vauxhall dealership after asking them to find a low mileage model to replace the passat we’d had written off. Twells of Billinghay found the car being p/x’d in a Scottish dealership and had it driven down for my father, so assume that when he bought it, 400+ of the miles certified where delivery to him. From the original purchase in 2006 I have the Network Q mileage check and search certificate stating the car was HPI clear and had covered a grand total of 8119 miles as of 28.06.06. The 114 point check completion certificate also comes with the paperwork.
I have paperwork and bills for the following:
March 2006: MOT test certificate [Tsamont Vauxhall, Vauxhall dealership], emissions certificate 7489 miles
July 2006: Tow bar and electric fitted by Scott Trailer, Walcot
February 2007: MOT test certificate [Twells of Billinghay Vauxhall dealership], emissions certificate 24563 miles

May 2008: Vectra – C handbrake recall. Vehicle taken into dealership [Twells of Billinghay] recall operation carried out and new handbrake lever spring fitted.

May 2010: Replace both front anti roll bar link rods [Alan Rhodes, Lincoln] 71332 miles
Weld broken exhaust bracket
September 2010: Annual service [Alan Rhodes, Lincoln] 77239 miles
Since owning the car I have replaced the oil and filter at 5000mile intervals, and the windscreen washer fluid and anti freeze for a summer mix
I have the tax discs from 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and I also have both original keys and key fobs, and a blank key ready that can be coded with the information in the included paperwork.
There is more paperwork including the original owners manual, the service manual showing FSH, VIN card with key numbers for replacement items, security codes and the radio pass etc. But I don’t have that with me at the moment and wouldn't want to lead you a merry dance so I can update the add with further information tomorrow, and I can pass on any further details if you have more questions about anything.
I think that’s about it, so if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Regards
