Hello, Just a quick introduction, this is my 1984 Polo with Zender Bodykit. It also sports a GTI Engineering badge but I'm not sure as to the history of this. I will give more details when I get more time but it is currently SORN, working to get it back on the road (and a driving license for me!) and is in pretty good shape apart from needing a brake overhaul and a few other bits and pieces. Just interested to see what people think, feel free to make any comments This is its current guise, the wheels are temporary to get it moving, but don't look that bad Thanks...

Very nice....don't see many of those in such good , complete condition. That will make an extremely nice first car! Original is best but looks cool either way - Good Luck!

Nice car mate, I can't remember the last time I saw one with this Zender kit fitted. I agree with Jon, it looked better on the Tarantulas, just needs a decent drop for maximum win. Do you have any further plans for it?

Had a think about the GTI Engineering badge. GTI Engineering started in the late 70's modifying VW and Audi cars. They are better known as BBR/GTI and are still going strong today. I've had a quick look and it seems they did fit Zender bodykits back in the days when your car was new. It might be worth getting in touch with them to see if they can trace your car and see when the conversion was carried out?

I'm going to add my voice to the Tarantula crowd. Best of all Tarantulas seem cheap and plentiful at the moment so getting hold of a set shouldn't be too hard. Quad square headlights and a small hatch-top spoiler combined with what you've got currently and a healthy drop for maximum win I reckon.

I still have the original Tarantulas, just need new tyres, the black wheels on it are only a temporary thing just to get the car rolling again. I'd like to keep everything as original as possible apart from a couple of minor changes and I agree that it does stand a little too high at the moment! First thing first though, it needs to get to a point where it's running well as it has been sat in the back garden for years and a few cold winters have not done it any favours, nothing too major in terms of problems though - touch wood...

Hi mate, great looking polo you have there. I have some info that may interest you about it. I think what you may have there, is a special edition 'Designer' Coupe. Albeit it is missing the original wheels and rear spoiler. I have this single page brochure : As you can see this model was sold through volkswagen dealers after being modified from a standard car by GTi engineering. I cant be sure whether yours is a 'designer' model, but the bodykit and colour and GTi engineering badge point in that direction. I hope this info is useful/ interesting. Dan .

Hello Dan - Thats a great piece of detective work! Very interesting. I know the car well and it has almost all the mods listed barring the waist spoiler and wheels...Ross is offline till friday but he'll love this info and be grateful for the time taken to dig it out and post it....!

I think I prefer the Tarantulas if I'm honest - but the R8's are more original - however it's not my choice.....one thing it needs first is an mot and tax......it also urgently needs a front screed if anyone knows of one!

Good find! Are the pcd's and offsets OK for a Polo though?

well the guy says he had them on a nova, which is 4x100, mini are 4x4" which is something like 4x101.6 so either they are 4x100, in which case varience bolts should have been used when fitting to mini or metro, or varience bolts should have been used if they are mini pcd. the offsets are high, which suggest to me that they are vw fit, not mini, as mini tend to use a low offset of around et11
