Well, this news is a biggun.
A few days ago, i bought a stator plate off a breaker, which my dad contacted on ebay through a different item.
Cost me £14 posted, so i thought it was worth a stab.
Arrived yesterday, summoned up the energy to fit it today because my melody needed fixing. After changing some bits on the melody i decided to swap the stator.
Swapped it on, it didnt spark, noticed the points were crusty, so i swapped the new ones on from the other stator, gapped the points. Kicked it over, SPARKED.
Couldnt be happier, means i can now build this thing up and maybe even use it!

Dunno, I spent £320 on it whole, mot'ed and working and i'll never get that back. Thats not really that expensive for a learner bike (not scooter) with T&T I would have though unless you completely trash it your going to get that back all day long, don't get depressed looking at the prices of what the Chinese copy bikes make on ebay, they have a price range all of there own which varies depending on what they weigh ;D

Got petrol going in, a spark, two stroke oil and compression but its not starting.
Any ideas?

Spark is nice & fat presumably (?) When was it last run? the fuel might be a stale, not likely but possible. If you've got those & good compression then it should fire, tried chucking a bit of easy start through.......Might just spur it back into life. If it's been laid up for a while the carb might be fouled up.

Fuel is only a few months old, its not 'fat', but my dad said it was 'alright' rather than poor, so its not all bad.
I put a new condenser in from the other stator cos it was new. When i changed the condenser when the old stator was in is started straight away, then i went back the next day and it wouldnt start (no spark). Now there is a spark with the new points and condenser but it doesnt start.
So I'm not sure really!

hmmmm, Try a different plug. 2 strokes don't like old plugs. Especially ones covered in dry 2 stroke mix. (the puch needs a plug occasionally)
Other than that. Timing out? Should be easy to set if you have a manual. Just involves turning the stater plate to the corresponding points...
Is the spark BLUE or Orange? It needs to be blue... Even a a fairly small blue spark is alot better than a huge orange one.

Ive tried a few plugs to no avail, ive set the timing a few times to be sure but i could have ago again i suppose.
And from what ive seen, its blue.

long shot, but are you certain you haven't knocked anything with the carb? our little Suzuki F50 2 stroke kicked with a reasonable spark all day long without any joy, ended up playing with the mix a little on the carb, making sure it wasn't flooded, and it fired straight up.

sounds like a carb problem to me. check that the choke hasnt been knocked from it or anything. I know its a common problem on scooters but not sure on bikes. sparking and compression is good usually relates to a fuel problem. might be worth cleaning the carb, would be worth doing anyway and 9 times out of 10 (on my scooters anyway) it solves it

Is it possibly totally gased up? try leaving it with the plug out overnight, it is possible to fill the crankcases with fuel if you try hard and this will not enhance the chances of it starting...

had problems with a friends crosser not starting ,good spark, good compression, turned out the crank seals were on their way out and the only way to get it to start from cold was to chuck a splash of petrol down the plug hole ttfn glenn

Right, back on the case with this. Ive always thought there was a compression leak, and with a good spark, fuel and two stroke, it wouldnt start. With the help of retroriders (the bike equivilient of this forum) we assumed it could have been the piston rings. And from taking the exhaust off and having a look, it looks likely that it is. So I'm probably going to order new rings and the like soon, but in the mean time, the seat happened to be annoying me. It was basically made of 99% duck tape, and was looking attocious, so I whipped it off and cut it up as a pattern. Got some vinyl we've had lying around for ages, and made a new one. Its not properly attached at the bottom so it'll look a bit better than that, I might add some trim too, because the seams are a bit shonky. Better than what was there before though! Shall keep you up to date.

Looking good I was gonna suggest compression- me and my mate were trying to fire up a BSA bantam that his dad has owned since the age of 11, it felt like it had good compression on the kick start, but it was just the flywheel giving it some resistance. With the flywheel off and a proper compression test, it had something like 10psi ;D You may have a large amount of fuel sat in your crankcase, as it hasn't been brought up into the cylinder.

Yeah compression feels/sounds alright, but i can almost hear a hissing sound where i think its leaking. And the piston appears to have the telltale signs of compression leak, so that might be the next job!
