Well, after a lot of searching after selling my puch maxi, here I am. Got this bike off Gazjon, very nice honest bloke who even delivered the bike for me, saving a lot of grief. Anyway, pictures: I've ridden it round for about 15 minutes already, I think theres a certain finesse to clutch control on bikes I'm yet to master but ive got the basics there. Its ready to insure, I just gotta learn clutch control properly first! Few plans for this, but I'm gunna imrpove my riding skills first off. Hope you approve, its 1000 times quicker than my melody. Jono.

I am most envious sir, was working out a way of getting it from Brighton to MK. Nice one though, gears will come naturally after a bit.......Not surprised you notice a difference havin' been smoking about on a Melody.

Well thankyou all! Havent really got the time to be faffing with turning it into a bobber, but i do have plans Retrowagen, some guy has been wanting to buy the melody for ages ironically, but i do have another white one that i'll have for sale eventually if your interested in one. Its definately bigger than the puch, I'm quite enjoying the weight if it, feels nice and stable. Gunna phone up insurance tomorrow and see if i can get it swapped, its a shame ive only got the rest of this week of college left so i'll have to learn the route in the holidays, but no worries for me!

Nice bike. You'll get heaps of enjoyment from a GP100.
My 2nd bike was a 1979 V reg GP100E with wire wheels, hydraulic front disc and the stubby tailpiece. The abuse that bike took was amazing! Mods included opening up the disc valve a wee bit, GP125 barrel. piston and head, Micron exhaust, home-made rearsets and ace bars. It responed quite well to all this and I managed to squeeze an indicated 92mph from it (probably a 'real' 85-87mph). The disc valve mods were based on what a 'pub expert' told me!! Lost a lot of low down power which made it awkward round town but once the revs went over about 5000rpm, it was rapid! Seized it on a weekly basis and got used to keeping two fingers over the clutch. I'm quite envious as I'd love another one!

Splendid!!! So Brighton wasn't too far then?? All the best with it, I remember loving little 125s while i was doing my direct access. My 250s got that extra bit of grunt though Chop down the rear a bit (who needs passengers?) bit of detailing and smoke it round. Enjoy dude! p.s. bookmarked...

Oh while i remember. Get that carb cover off the right hand casing and check it for gunk and dirt. Being a 2 stroke it ends up clogged up with crud after very little time. And you don't want the motor breathing it in ;D

Slacker, once in second gear it goes from about 10 - 30mph in seconds, its rapid. Mylittletony, the guy delivered it for me, which was damn nice of him, and as for mods, you'll see And i will do eventually, needs a little work till its perfect.

Someone been watching the discovery channel? haha... Gonna be cool mate, My local bike shop has a few original cafe racers sat about, Ones a norton with a polished tank and the drilled strap holding it down, Dropped bars, Bobbed rear end... Amazing looking thing... You going for the whole look?

Hahah! my friend asked me that as well. I'm actually taking inspiration from my dad wierdly, in the late 60s he had a triton cafe racer and i love the things.
I don't actually get the discovery channel, otherwise i'd watch that!
As for full look, in on a mega budget, which is why i havent gone and bought a seat hump.
Once the seat is done and trimmed I'm gunna cut that rear bit of the frame and relocate stuff. Drop bars are happening too so it'll be as full on cafe racer as i can get.

I had a GP100 for a while. One of my fave films is Restless Natives where the crooksfly about the highlands on a GP125, holding up tour busses.
