Just got this as a p/x against my Mk1.
It's a 1993 Tornado Red Golf Mk3 1.8CL (90hp) 5 door. The car doesn't show any of the signs of high mileage and there's nothing wrong with it. It drives and sounds great. Recently (at 153k) it had a serious engine service and that included:
head gasket,
valve stem oil seals,
rocker gasket,
cam shaft end seal,
engine oil and filter,
coolant,
injector base plate/flange,
thermostat,
cam belt,
tensioner,
alternator belt,
metal coolant pipe,
re lapped valves.
More recently, for the last MOT it had:
few bulbs,
2 tiny patches of welding underneath (it won't need any more for years),
most of the metal brake pipes changed,
brake fluid changed,
rear wheel cylinder,
rear wheel bearings adjusted,
spark plugs replaced,
drivers window regulator,
drivers front wing and inner wheel arch (paint not great and couple of small dents),
bolt on the sunroof (Now replaced with matching bolts. Tested - doesn't leak at all )
I can also put new oil and filter in if needed (It doesn't really need it but got both with the car so why not )
I didn't like the look of few spade connectors in the engine bay so I obtained the whole immaculate injection loom, checked it, re-insulated and replaced it. Sweet
Because of all that the Golf does run very nice and smooth and there's no knocks or noises in the engine or from the suspension. It drives very straight and doesn't pull to any sides. It really doesn't feel like a high mileage car at all! ***After doing nearly 150 miles in it I can say it's nearly perfect! I really enjoy driving it***
The interior is surprisingly in a very good state! There are no marks or rips on the seats which shows that the car was cared for. It's not clean inside but I'll give it a full valet in the next few days. Everything works as it should and there's a nice and stylish Black/White Kenwood CD Stereo fitted.
On the outside the paint is typically a bit flat but I will give it a proper polish ( ) and wax in the next couple of days. ***The car had a proper polish and is now very very shiny*** There's a couple of rusty spots on the car. One is on the bootlid just under the rear window (surface bubble) and one of the front wings has a bit starting to show. Nothing major and as I said it won't need any welding at all. The driver's side wing was poorly painted and has couple of small dents.
The car is currently on a set of SNOW TYRES but I do have a set of normal ones and will have them swapped over. ***The car is now on regular tyres with snow tyres in the boot*** The snow tyres will come free with the car! Plenty of tread on them so they will last fair few winters if stored properly and will dramatically improve winter commuting! There's also a lot of tread on the regular tyres. The car also has the optional full size spare wheel.
There are a lot of receipts with the Golf. Old MOT's go back to mid 1990's and the service book is stamped until mid 2000's and then there are more MOT's and Receipts There's also the original owners manual if needed.
It owes me a bit more but I'll let it go for £400 - cheap reliable daily with plenty of space, decent power and a long MOT.
Oh, and it goes under Classic Car insurance with Footman James, Peter James and Peter Best (probably more but these are the ones I checked)
I have to sell this car in the next 2 weeks.
Any questions - PM me, e-mail, TXT, call - I'll answer straight away.
Thanks
-Mikey
UPDATED PICTURES:
(please note they aren't 'I-just-washed-my-car' pictures. It does actually look that shiny! Water is there only because I just changed both bolts in the sunroof and was testing it with few bottles of water )
^Both new bolts. Looks a lot better than the odd one drenched in sealant
^The rust spot on the bootlid doesn't actually look that scary at all!
^This front wing is the poorly painted one. It's not that bad really, just not as shiny as the rest of the car
^Snow tyres that come free with the car! Be prepared next winter!
