I’m selling my E36 318is BMW, I’ve had this car for about 11 months and it’s served me really well. The car has only once caused me an issue when the water pump bearings started to get nosey and had play so I replaced it, along with the thermostat, thermostat housing, the air con and alternator belts and gave it a full engine coolant flush – this was about 4 months ago. I gave the car a service as soon as I bought it like I do with all my cars when I buy them to make sure everything is tickety boo. I then also gave the car another service at the time of the waterpump (inspection II) and still has 2 green lights on the display.
Quick rundown of the car;
•Registered September 30th 1998 R reg although it has a private plate so makes it look older - plate came with the car and will be sold with the car.
•Mileage at MOT was 156,253 but this will rise as use the car everyday.
•Rare special order Aqua Metallic paint with champagne sports leather seats
•Factory fit fire extinguisher on the drivers seat.
•Full M-Tec body kit as found on the iconic E36 M3 including boot spoiler
•M-Tec leather steering wheel with M/// coloured stitching and M/// leather gearknob that I bought brand new when I got the car as it was worn through.
•Black headlining again found on the M3 cars.
•18” Alpina style alloys with 4 matching make tyres.
•Remote central locking with auto close of sunroof and front windows should you have left them open to save you having to re-enter the car.
•Alarm and immobiliser
•Fog lights front and rear
•Clear front, side and rear side repeaters.
•Rear parking sensors
•Drivers airbag
•Digital climate control (both sides can be separately heat controlled)
•One touch front electric windows
•Electric mirrors
•Full BMW toolkit still present
•Warning triangle in the boot
•Unopened first aid kit
•Factory fitted optional fire extinguisher mounted on the drivers seat
•Genuine carbon fibre boot and bonnet badges
•No rust on any arch, sill, sunroof panel or anywhere that I’ve looked including underneath. It’s a very clean shell in my opinion.
•Comes with 2 central locking key, valet key that doesn’t unlock the boot or glovebox and another spare fully plastic key that can be used in emergency.
At the end of Jan (Monday 31st Jan) I had the car MOT’d so comes with 12 months ticket. The car did fail first time around on both of the rear solid brake pipes that go to each wheel (where the solid meets the flexi pipes) It was advised that only a small section (3-4 inches on each site) needed replacing but I had the full length replaced that runs under the chassis and around the fuel tank. Reason for this was because we wanted to take the pipes back to solid piping as they weren’t looking too cleaver and would only have needed to be done again in the next couple of years. BMW thought steel brake pipes were a good idea? Go figure that one out!! This is the only failure on the car. It did get an advisory on one of the rear tyre being worn close to the legal limit but that’s it.
The car does have some bad points that I’ve listed below:
•A few dents here and there – all but one will nock out as they haven’t broken the paint. My intention was to always do this but I’ve never gotten around to it as they are not that bad.
•Larger dent on the front wing that has broken the paint. I think the wings are galvanised as it hasn’t rusted – you could knock it out but would need painting afterwards.
•Doors could do with the catches being played with as when the catches are set inwards so the door shuts lines up with the body of the car the doors an be difficult to open.
•Drivers seat bolster is worn as pictured.
•Drivers window will go up with the one touch function but will stop half way and come back down – this is a very common fault with E36 coupes because of the pillarless doors. It can be fixed by replacing a couple of plastic runners.
•Bumpers need re-aligning a bit.
•Clutch biting point is quite high but that said its not got any higher since Ive had it and doesn’t slip at all.
•Small chip on the windscreen (didn’t fail the MOT because of it)
•Starter motor sometimes will not engage – very rare that this happens but its worth mentioning.
One thing to mention is that I moved house since owning this car from Leicester to Haslingden and can’t find the service history folder. I’m really gutted as it had a full service history with only the last two stamps not being main dealer. I will if I get time pop into BMW and get a print out of the history as they should have a record of this on file. I hope to find it before it sells but wanted to be upfront.
EDIT: I've found some of the history like previous MOTs, TAX disks, bills for work carried out and what have you. I also found an invoice for a Tracker that was fitted by BMW a few years ago so you may be worth the new owner speaking with Tracker and getting it re-activated - I don't think it costs too much so may be worth you doing. I've added a pic of history i've found - can't get it all into the picture so some is not in show.
I've not been able to find the BMW wallet with service book and what have you but i'll keep on looking.
Please feel free to call should you wish to view or have any questions, car is in Haslingden BB4 4PW for viewing.

I'm open to offers and very interested in a swap of some sort if anyone has a motor with similar MOT and TAX - i'm open to look at anything but could really do with a E34 V8 touring. (well my wallet doesn't but my heart does) Could do with boot space at least. Would go more retro for my daily as well as I don't do a massive amount of miles so V8s and stuff are also welcome.
