First update in a month. I hadnt forgotten about the thread... Honest. Well here goes, not much has happened but I have bought more stuff to go on the polo. Firstly, I have been buying more stereo stuff. This rather flash, top spec Kenwood Head unit now inhabits my dash: It is a great unit, and is reasonably priced too. It has 3 4.0v preouts, ipod control, USB, and aux cable input. The colours of the illumination can be changed and can be diferent on either side and the screen, cool or what: I also have a set of kenwood 6.5" component speakers for the front doors, which should sit nicely in the Audioscapes ;D. No pic as I couldnt be arsed to get em out of the box. Moving away from audio, I got a new parcel shelf, without 6x9 holes in it. Its a rare black late spec polo coupe one in smoother material, and was pretty cheap: Remember those rare mirrors ive got? I never said before but the passenger side isnt quite perfect, it has scuffing on the edge. However, I bought a second NOS passenger side at Stonor park on sunday, for £10. So I now have a perfect mint pair ;D and a spare one, which may be for sale. Sundays find: Maybe some of this stuff I have hangin around will actually go on the car soon, at the moment I'm just hoarding it all.

Well i did a bit of work on the polo this morning/afternnoon. Rain stopped play, but i managed some stuff before i had to go indoors: Finally put my early polo saloon mirrors on They look so much better than the standard ones, and to the untrained eye, have always been there. Notice anything missing in this pic?? There they are! And i only broke one clip, looks like passenger side has been off before. Shown with one of the Audioscape door pods, and a standard pocket (top). Lots of measuring and drilling to be done, but i'm very impressed with how the pod just lines itself up perfectly. The fit is spot on Lots of wires!: Amp is on its way, then i can start the wiring for the comps. Sexy chrome window winder off a passat, only got one tho, was 50p so couldnt leave it. So if anyones got one knockin about... ;D Also got a new old stock genuine battery cover: Cant seem to get it on at the moment, but i'll find a way. I think that it for now. Oh, wait, no it isnt....... How cool is this, flat speaker wire: If its sad that i think speaker wire is cool, then sad i am. More udates coming soon.

Amp came ;D.You can really see why its called a Lite Box! Its even smaller than i expected. It really is tiny at just over 8 inches long, yet still puts out 500 watts: And i fitted the Audioscape door pods. Alot of measuring and a bit of drilling, and here they are (pics make them look a weird colour):

Well, the stereo install still isnt done, Its going to be dragging on into a third day . Just when i thought i was on the home stretch, i realised i'd forgotten about the tweeters. Turns out i have nowhere to mount the little buggers! I'm gonna have to fabricate something tomorrow. Then maybe i can actually test it all.

Thanks for the comment mate Sorry about my previous, curse word and un-informative post, i was just sick of stereos and wiring after 12 hours over 2 days! Anyway, i finished pretty much all the wiring that i started sunday, yesterday. Only the wires for the speakers are just hanging in the doors. The amp is wired up and i tidied all the wiring so it all looks neat. I have also solved the tweeter mounting problem, with 2 pieces of small pvc downpipe. Obviously they need modification and spraying, but you get the idea: Pretty neat eh? Well at least they will be when i'm done .

Made my tweeter pods today out of the above pipe and refitted the door cards. They look awesome if i do say so myself: Empty pod: How it mounts, Silicone sealent FTW: And all done and on the car: I had to make the pods as the door card is right against the metal in all the places i wanted to put my tweeter. Heres a pic of the whole door card too, just the speaker wiring to connect now and i'm done with the stereo for now:

Finished the install Thursday evening, and had it all wired up and working. Just in time to give me a days cleaning and polishing, ready for GTI International Saturday morning: The Finished Door builds with speakers: The polo at GTI International: The trip to the show and back is the furthest i have ever driven (160 miles round trip). The polo performed faultlessly, sitting at 65-70 all the way an the motorway. And despite only having a 4 speed 'box, only used 2/3rds of a tank. I came to the conclusion that i need a 5 speed 'box, even if i only use the 5th on motorways. Also bought my 4th set of rims at the show. Pics of them tomorrow, as i cant be bothered now, even tho they are currently in the living room next to me ;D.

As promised, here is my latest set of rims. don't know whether i'll be fitting these yet but bought them anyway, as for £45 they were a bargain (works out at £11.25 each) ;D They arent curbed and have been freshly done in black Sparkly glitter paint: They are 14 x 6 genuine VW/Audi multi spoke wheels. I think they're from an Audi coupe GT (The one thats like a quattro, but not). They are much more glittery than they look, as the sun was behind a huge cloud.

Your tweeter mounting solution is epic. Exactly what I need, shame I've just soldered all the wiring together A white Polo Coupe is what I was yearning after for years too, the steels are going to take some beating. Will be interesting to see how the spokes look.

Those wheels will really suit the car. I recommend 185 50 14 rubber, proper rolling radius and fits and handles nicely. I reckon if you space the rears out 20mm your stance will be bang on Cant wait to see them on the car.

I was thinking 185 50's too, they are the ideal size. I could go with a bit of stretch, but stretched tyres look gay, and handle bad. As long as they don't rub at all I will be happy.
On the subject of the tweeter pods, they're the first thing i've done that someone has described as 'epic' ;D. I was pretty pleased with them tho.

Hi all. Update time. Been busy working so havent really had time to get on the forum much. Not much progress on the car but here goes anyway: First things first, i sold the Ronal rims on to a fellow poloer as i decided they werent really what i wanted. Went to BVF, and having joined the VWOCGB, i was able to bag a place in the display hall all weekend : In the display: With a mates MK2: Bought some pressed plates from BVF, which look alot better than my manky old discoloured, mismatched plates: I was wondering if the car would look better with orange indicators. The thinking was it might brighten up the front end. I couldnt decide whether to go orange or stay clear, so i have both. They are clear in the day, and when i turn on the lights, they're orange U.S style marker lights: Here they are, and yes the indicators are still visible: Bought some retro stickers. Fading VW circles. They look right at home on the car in my opinion, and you don't see them alot anymore: Went to Dubstock VW show in leominster, one of the best weekends of the year for me ;D: Had some issues with the rear suspension. It started when the washers under the top nut started rattling, and ended up making a banging noise and being like this : Thought it could be siezed shocks, unlikeley after 2000 miles. It turned out to be alot simpler. I stripped it all off and found the mechanic i had fit the lowering kit had used the wrong sized washers between the bumpstops and the bottom buffers. The washers were too small and had punched through the rubber buffer, causing the shock to come through the turret and the car to ride on the springs . Whilst the suspension was off i put in new bumpstops, buffers and the correct washer each side. I also raised it by 2 notches from 60 to 40mm. Car now has a better stance, ride, and isnt rattling all the time. Heres a nice pic from a few evenings back:

Dan, that is really looking good in that last pic. with the rear suspension up a notch and those fading VW decals. The door speaker installation is very tidy indeed, those Audioscape pods look so O.E. which I always like. Tweeter mounts are a very neat idea too. Keep up the good work mate, Cheers, Richard.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, i am pleased with how the car is turning out. And 'woodenspatulas' The marker lights are quite simple to do. I simply drilled a hole on the back of the indicators, and put in universal sidelight bulb holders with side repeater bulbs. The bulb holders were then spliced into the sidelight wiring.
