Roof rack WHY? It's a nice looking car, just 'cause it's a VW don't mean you need to fit a roof rack. Your car, your choice but I think it'll spoil it. I havent put the rack on the coupe and I probablly wont. The coupe isnt old skool enough for the rack. I'm savin it for when either my MK1 is back on the road, or I get a MK2. Really it was an excuse to sneak in some MK1 pics Youve got to admit tho, the rack was a bargain. That's good news Dan, no roof rack FTW! Agreed it was a bargain though. Personally I really liked the wheels that were on it when you bought it. The colour coded boot plinth is very nicely done as are the resprayed badges. Some nice work going on here.

Gotta love those wheels! Personally I think the purple will ruin it though, how about red to match the bumper strips on the car? Yeah i was originally thinkin red, but thats what everone else would do. And i did try red on photoshop and it didnt look right for some reason. The whole wheel design is subject to change tho, and i could always change the bump strips to match.

Really smart little car this. Ideal as a daily or show.

I like those wheels, real different when there are so many of those Coupes on every other kind of wheel you can think of. I say polish them totally though! don't think you should change the lines colour and lines of the car with that purple.

Cheers for the comments. Not much progress of late tho. I bought a new standard exhaust backbox to replace that stupid big bore. Just need to head of to the scrappy for a bumper. As mine has been cut for said stupid exhaust. I am goin to tuck the new exhaust right up and cut back the tailpipe, so it is hidden.
Also ive been doin a bit of bodywork. The passenger door was bubbling along the bottom. So i ground off the rust, treated it with kurust, filled, Sanded, primed and then top coated. Polished it up as well now and will put a pic of my handy work up tommorow.
Ive made a start on one of the wheels too, but i have a feelin they are goin to takea very loooooong time.

Here is my resprayed door bottom. Its not perfect, but i'm happy considering it was done entirely outside, with rattle cans. Its a pretty good match too: I will be wielding my spray cans again soon, when ive dealt with some of the other little rust bubbles, starting with the one you can see on the right of the picture under the side trim. The sills may well be painted black, as I'm thinking about GT arches.

Gave the polos paintwork some attention monday afternoon. Gave it a good polish and wax, and its so much better for it, especially the roof and bonnet, which were dull and had weird stains and marks. Will put some pics up of the shiny-ness soon.

Well havent updated this in a while and a few things have happened/changed. I'll try and keep the things in order of when they happened but cant really as i forget easy . Here we go! Firstly i have started to buy stuff up for my stereo install, and got this sub from a car boot for a bargainous £10: I got this sunroof winder from a GT. Looks much better than the nasty filthy cream one. I will be getting black visors and vinyl paint will transform the headliner. The photo also shows my new led light, good bye horrid yellowy bulb. The car also has Osram nightbreakers now. Awesome bulbs these, super bright and the smoothest beam pattern ive seen. no pics tho, as it isnt dark. Heading back to the sunroof. As its got sunny ive been opening it and didnt like the surface rust on the wind deflector parts, so i refurbed them, with the help of nitromors and a quick rub down, then some satin black. They look almost better than new: Last but not least, i got these at the weekend for £12, they bolt straight on and will look so much better than the ugly standard ones, which stick out miles. They were still in the boxes too: For those wondering what they are off. They come from very early MK2 polo saloons, and are quite rare, especially in remote adjust form.

Oh, nearly forgot, some stuff also broke. The seat lifter cable on the drivers side, and drivers seatbelt now decides when it wants to work. I spent a few hours repairing the seat yesterday, using the traditional block connector. What a pain in the ass that job was, had to remoive the cover as well. The polo also moved past 115,000 at the end of last month.

Good stuff, it's the little details that make the difference. Those bulbs are great, had 'em on the Iggy Sport, an extra 50m of visibility on a dark night is always a bonus!

They arent that good surely Honestly Dan, those mirrors were a serious bargain! Normally, just about anything VW related is silly money if it's rare. These early mirrors were only fitted for a short time and then not to all models. I can't ever recall seeing this type in remote adjust form on BOTH sides. To get them new in a box for £12 a pair is just taking the proverbial. It is as they say, "a right result".

Theres a little story behind how i got them. I was at Bus types show last month and i saw the passenger side one for sale, thought ooh thats a bit rare. I picked it up and it was £15. I thought i would never find the other side so i left it. Then last weekend i went to Stanford hall, and found the drivers side (£5). Thought, curse word! wish i'd bought that other one, thought about a mirror blank, carried on walkin round and there it was ;D Bartered him down from his new price of £10 to £7 and its like i was destined to buy them.
