I'd sell body parts for space like that! We're really lucky to have found it. 4 of us in on it now and it's a lovely space. When we started it was just a mate and I. We did a ton of work pulling up the wood floor, putting in LED lights, running airlines and getting air tools in. Then building out the bays on one side, the chill out area etc. Bit of hard graft but for basically recycling stuff it's come out pretty decent. The full photo dump is here, latest pics at the bottom. I'm trying to keep it updated as we add stuff.

Those billet engine mounts on the Honda conversion are far too gorgeous to be covered up.

I think by the time you have spent that much on a 180bhp Rover you might as well go Honda powered.. I just cant bring myself to do it. The K suits it so well. The Honda lump is....all wrong for the car.

Interesting. I've got a new head I'm thinking of having sent off for some head work. I've also got a dry sump kit sitting on the shelf. I have visions of a dry sumped 180bhp K. Why Kiwirog over DVA? Also re ECU I think I'd end up going something different. DTA possibly since it's known to me and I've got one on another car and know a guy who can map them well.

Which steering rack did you end up going with? The Eliseparts one? And did you do the steering arms as well? Do you know who built the K in it? Kiwirog? I keep pondering this for my 99 azure blue Elise.

Of the whole series, the Lancia segment was fantastic. Aside from that it's a bit dead. The 15 mins of obscure celebrity match up and thrash a jag is unwatchable dross. Conversation street is a close second in the unwatchable stakes. It's been better this season but it's still not a patch on The News from Top Gear.
I'm glad the American is gone but the whole race driver/lap time thing seems well past its best. This is possibly just me not being excited about whatever the latest £43453465023402353245 hyper-super-dooper-mega-bonkers car is as much as it is tedium in the nature of the segment. But it feels like it lacks a bit of sizzle. If you must do lap times could you introduce some variety in it? Do an old car thing or curse word car thing once a week and time the lap for absurdity sake.
The last episode had a bit of a nasty undercurrent to it. It seems its all about destruction and being terrible to each other. May's anger didn't seem haha funny, it seemed genuine. And the premise was awful and tone deaf. Let's feed Africa! And make jokes about it! Then fail to feed anyone with anything other than 2 fish. That's in the very poorest of taste. It feels like they've run out of ideas.
I'm very interested in seeing what the new Top Gear is like now that it's got the presenters it should have had from the get go.

Why not throw it away and welder up Look better and you can by or make headlining. Just a thought Having done this on a race car with sunroof delete its an utter hatefest. A total time suck to do right and then you have the added prep and paint. I've not done it again since.

Or the other way round: what engines and boxes should be avoided? The Rover K series 1.8 in the back of my Elise says hi.

I'm sure I read that the Ford Duratec shared bellhousing pattern with Mazda. The NC MX5 came with what's essentially a rebadged Duratec and the 6 speeds were different from previous models as I understand it. I'm not sure the bolt patterns are the same on the older ones.

Failing that you could MGF/TF? The K series came in 1.4 and would be a pretty straightforward swap. Mid engined as well. Just a thought.

I ran a Quaife ATB in, of all things, a Fiat 500 1.4 (not the Abarth) for a couple of years. It was the single best modification I did to the car. It evened out the torque when you accelerated, it pulled out of corners, was excellent in the wet and delightful for track. Most of the time you didn't even know it was there. The only drawback I could discern was that it cost you about 2mpg over the same car with the factory open diff. I can't recommend them highly enough. I'm contemplating one in the Elise.

Was following a newish Fiat 500 the other evening - the one with the "surround" rear lights. Trouble is, the bottom of each side of the light is a different height, so one side of the light is very slightly higher than the other. Drove me insane! Can you circle on the image where the differences are? It looks completely normal to me?

One thing that (as an owner) always annoyed me more than it should was the horn grilles not lining up with the indicators on the S1 XJ6, see below. When really it should be like this: For the life of me I can't spot a difference. Can you point out which bits are different?
