73 Mercedes, I have title from the states which has an export stamp in nov 2016. So it was imported from the states but no idea if it was registered, I have imported cars before and my shippers handle all paperwork and then I receive NOVA so I know the process but this merc was brought in haste and then left, only got round to sorting paperwork. Essentially I just need a way of checking whether duty has been paid, not sure if contacting hmrc would help.

I will give that a shot, but I believe that's within the 14 day from arriving in the UK period so may not apply

Ok so I’ve had a car sat since 2016 that I purchased from a chap in the U.K, it’s a Mercedes but its a lhd imported from States. Now registering and realised I don’t have a nova letter or import papers, only a sale receipt from when I purchased and a title. Do I have to contact hmrc to get proof of duties paid, is there a website where I can check if vehicle was registered. Thanks in advance.

Don’t mind around £1k but some are quoting £4K, I have found a place near Birmingham who have given a fair price, nomad you don’t want to have a stab at doing another engine rebuild?!

Hi guys up for grabs is a 72 Renault Saviem army truck, registered as a light utility 4x4. Not an everyday opportunity! Being a medium scale truck it has the 'big' presence but wheelbase is actually similar to a large car, so parking/ storage is not really an issue. Body and chassis are rock solid, needs general service and clean up. It does run and drive and comes with correct log book. These were actually manufactured by Saviem as a military and off roader, not many produced. Can be converted to a camper, mobile cafe, use as is, off roading, advertising and promotions etc. I am also selling off some of my collection, thought it would take up too much room if new post for each so here is a list: 68 Ford Mustang £9k 77 Pontiac Firebird £7k 58 Pontiac star chief £8k 76 Cadillac coupe deville £8.5k 72 Renault Army Truck £5k 68 dodge monaco coupe £6.5k Apart from the caddy the others would be considered projects needing respray and interior work. All V8’s run and drive. If interested in any let me know I will send more info and price. May take px's.

Hi guys so chap working on my car can no longer continue due to personal circumstances but has tested and 2 cylinders are low on compression, now I know further checks are needed but what would prices range from - best and worst case scenario ie top/ bottom/ full rebuild?
Also recommendations of garages/ individuals would be great ideally 100 miles of east midlands.

Thanks guys some great info, I have a few so getting them to a physical auction plus the fact there is the charge regardless of whether they sell or not was a consideration, also have a 70's army truck I think that may do well if an auction house decides to take it in! Will try a few and see how they go, MKX thanks for the ebay tips very useful.

Hi guys just weighing up selling my small classic collection online (ebay/ forums etc) vs classic car auctions. It seems Ebay has a huge coverage, is there really anything to gain from selling at a classic auction? Opinions welcome!

Hi guys so decided to re-chrome a few bits of trim and bumpers for some of my classics, never done before so question is has anyone (successfully) knocked out dents and straightened bits of chrome trim as well as re-chroming? Finding it difficult to source new trim for a chevy truck so thinking this could be an option, thanks in advance

all sorted now thanks - the issue was diagnosis took months simply due to owner of garage not bothering/ prioritising the work on the car, at no point has quote been given to carry out work as it's not even been checked! I left it on the basis it would be diagnosed and then I would approve or reject the quote if work was too much/ price too high. Simply a case of terrible customer service. I am hoping to pick up the car this week and have agreed to pay a small amount for time they checked over the car which to be honest I don't believe was any time but it avoids hassle.

Hi guys any help appreciated I’m a bit cornered at the moment, have a classic I’ve sent to a garage, was sent on basis of a diagnosis and then a quote after which I would approve, it’s been almost 5 months, only 10% reply rate on emails/ texts and calls. I do know issue it went in for is inresolved. I’ve now requested car back have a Recovery guy waiting and managed to get a text back from garage owner saying he would send me bill, not sure what for as nothing has been done, again no contact since then, now legally this car is mine, I want it back, can I get police involved and arrange to have it collected? If garage makes issue of bill am I right in assuming that’s then a civil matter and they can pursue that as a separate issue? I just want the car back and would like to do it legally if I can!

£300 for parts plus shipping does add up, surely can be fabricated for less, heard certain companies can go off measurements or old parts and just laser cut

Hi I've got a Datsun 280z finding it difficult to source floorpans, has anyone taken old floorpan to a fabricator and had new part made up? If so any recommendations, either in east midlands or near Newcastle.

Hey guys need an old skool mechanic and a reasonably priced welder who can work on a number of classic cars. Anywhere around East Midlands is fine, if they can also respray that would be advantage, any recommendations would be great. Thanks
