ive only had the 4.0 and 4.2 both are great in my opinion, the 4.2 is the same as in the later xj, xf and xk's. i wouldnt say there is a massive difference in performance 20bhp more i think, but they are alot better on fuel probably due to the 6 speed bmw gearbox.

Great cars, I'm on my second one, 1st was the earlier 4.0 and current is the 4.2 speed auto, i personally wouldnt bother with a v6 as mine averages 23.5mpg with me driving normal/idiot, rear silencer delete is a must, done it to both of mine and the sound savage current (ignore black headlights will be changed soon) previous bonus previous xj40

Id love another x300/308 had all of them apart from v12 and straight 6 super charged. I had a v8 xjr briefly was a great car but the mint 4.0 v8 sovereign was the nicest one I owned. When I get back from holiday I'll be looking into getting another xj myself

nice little show, i had a walk down there with the dog, didnt take the humber as its sitting all weird atm due to 2" blocks on the back and stock front, i had a chat with the bloke with the blue sceptre though, owned it 40 years! hes running clamps on the front of his and stock rear suspension, had a genuine holbay engine also

2" lowering blocks came today, couldn't stop myself from fitting them, as i was in a rush i was just going to cut the front springs like i usually do but it looked abit dodgy so i left it, eventually I'd like to get a set of coilovers made up but for now just going for capri springs, can i use -2" capri springs or will -1" be better? want it as low as possible but also safe-ish.. will be ordering asoon as i know if i can getr away with -2" springs as my car now looks like its about to take off! haha. cheers
