In fairness the club had already been made aware of the car sometime over the weekend.
It did make me wonder, though - if I was in the same situation, having to leave my car parked somewhere while I was carted off in an ambulance, what would happen from there? My club know my car, who I am and where to find me, but not how to find anyone else that could help. One of those thoughts that you start to have as you get older, particularly for people like me who don't have a wife or partner that could be involved.

I've just had a call back from a nice chap from the SP250 Owners Club, who have been alerted to this car. The owner took it out of his garage, parked it there (I believe it's behind some shops as well as the village hall) and then fell ill and was taken into hospital, where he still is. A local club committee member has been in touch with the council and persuaded them to suspend any thoughts of taking it away, and is arranging to have it moved into more suitable storage until the owner is back.

I've sent a link to this thread to the SP250 Owners Club, in case they know how to contact the owner.

I've got an attachment for a power washer (no idea if it fits mine, it was given to me) to do wet sand blasting, I've always thought that the last thing you want on newly-blasted metal parts is a lot of water. The mess is also off-putting.

I still think of this thing as modern, but it's old enough to drink in pubs. On its own, without an adult, and without a meal. Which is mildly terrifying. I do that with my daily-driver TT, it'll be 24 in April. It's now the oldest car I've driven as a daily, by quite some margin. This week's intention was to get my project car up on to the rollover stand so I can strip off underseal, finish a few welds and check a few suspicious areas that are easier to address when not lying underneath the car. I finally managed that yesterday, though it was more tricky than I remember from last time. It's up in the air now, and while there are a couple of issues that I didn't now about, I was suspicious of them and they're repairs I did on the previous car, so not terrible to do again. First off, scrape off all the underseal that's now much easier to reach.

^ I've read that there's a few HAs at the NEC Restoration Show this weekend, so perhaps that's where they are all going.

I've done nothing more than run the car up to temperature and move the USB power socket to a more suitable location, in preparation for what turns out to be my first event of the year on Easter Monday. I had planned a few Sunday morning things, but the weather has stopped me so far. Now I have one or two leaking wheel cylinders to look at as the fluid level had dropped quite a bit when I was checking over the car prior to starting it.

That's similar to the one I was thinking of, interesting to look at but quite pricey to buy a bit to see how well it works - the kit on the Eastwood site is about $170, then shipping, duty etc. Frosts don't seem to list it with their other Eastwood stuff.
The videos I watched looked really good, I did see something similar (not Frosts or Eastwood) at one of the restoration shows and wanted more information but the guys on the stand were just chatting among themselves and didn't notice I wanted to ask them about it.

I have the same problem - I bought another project car as the country came out of lockdown, intending to do a quick restoration and hopefully move it on, and not only have I still got it, but I'm talking to someone about another car. There is barely enough room in the shed now, adding another won't be easy and will make working on my daily car, or either of the two runners, more difficult. Sometimes I just look in the shed and wonder why I've got all this stuff around me.

Did you mean to name the thread for last week, rather than this?

I'd think maybe start at a VW club, or perhaps a VW Golf club or forum, or even Facebook group. There isn't an official way to do it, you need A Good Reason to request information like that from the DVLA and just wanting to possibly buy it back doesn't count as one. Parking companies seem to have a way to get it from ANPR information, though I expect they'd be breaking all sorts of GDPR rules if they provided that information to you. So I'd try forums and Facebook groups to start.

I'd agree, chrome paint in aerosols really shouldn't be thought of as chrome, it's more like bright silver. If you lacquer it, it suddenly becomes dull grey. What I'd like is whatever they use to coat the aerosol lids on that stuff, because it's usually much closer to the finish I wanted from the can.
There are two-pack chrome-effect sprays, I haven't found anyone locally to me that does it so I can see it close up. If you look up the episode of Salvage Hunters Classic Cars where they did the Volvo Amazon, I think they did the boot handle in that finish.

Well, I was going to Race Retro on Sunday, but it's been cancelled due to weather. I was looking forward to that, too.

I've always believed that the centrebore isn't load bearing and so a centrebore that is too big would actually be fine (where the hub and nuts bear the load and the tapered nuts centralize the wheel). Isn't it correct that the answer here is "it depends"? I'm sure I've read that some wheels use the centre spigot for additional locating strength, but I don't have an example to quote - I'm generally obsessed with keeping everything standard so it's not something I've come across, I just remember reading it. I very much doubt the thing I was reading was about the XJ40, so apologies if this is taking it off topic.
