Well, due to circumstances beyond my control I can now get a flight to UK no quarantine needed. It looks like I quickly need to come up with a new excuse reason to stay here in paradise, or book a flight home before I miss the summer. Everyone I speak to in uk talks about rain every day, force 11 storms and more. Decisions

I've been told in the past the tinware sealing the engine compartment is needed to stop the motor overheating when driving. Not sure if they are also important at tickover. Maybe refit it and see?

Great progress, so *very* close.
I'm guessing you have checked the pump is getting fuel up to the carb? Try using your hand to strangle the carb inlet when cranking, it sometimes sucks fuel and clears blockages. Is there an easy way to get the top off the carb - bowl should be full but I often find stuck fuel inlet valves?

Hi, good to see the progress. ^ You can get dual stop/tail led bulbs, I got some for a big single cylinder road bike I had - vibration was killing normal bulbs so fast I bought a full box of 24 as spares! Can't remember where I got mine (Aldi/Lidl ?) but eBay has some listed www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=led+stop+tail+bulbps. I just got an inflatable paddle board and am having fun with it. Inflatables are not just for smaller kids

My stay here keeps getting extended so I decided it was time to get transport sorted. The bike is now an E-bike and it being used as a proper workhorse Pic : E-bike 36v 350w conversion kit, moving 5ft striplights (cheap from the charity shop), flatpacked inflatable paddle board at the nearby beach, board at the pond behind the house I need to arrange a return trip to uk but every time I talk to folk there I decide to stay here I bit longer until it’s safe to travel. I may be here a while yet In other news I recently found out the owner of this place is T-total, which led to him saying I can help myself to help myself to the weird assortment of bottles in the liquor cabinet and wine cellar as he won't drink them SamplesChecking if the contents are safe to drink is my latest spare-time project, it may take some time

During lockdown I was inveigled into some woodworking projects for the benefit of the wimmin' of the family. YouTube has a lot to answer for and particularly those videos referring to shabby-chic planters made from pallets and both the girls wanted one. A bit late on this but if you get any more requests for planters, visit your nearest glazing factory (the folk who make the glass for upvc double glazing) - they bulk buy glass sheets in assorted sizes and get them delivered on pallets. The ends of the glass are protected with wooden cases (aka ready-made planters), and our place always has a skip-full of this "rubbish" they are happy for you to take from. Just add Cuprinol

Your plan makes sense and might fix 2 problems at once. I'd expect the only problem a pinhole in the return line would give is a leak/weep of diesel, but I'm not a diesel expert. A pinhole in the feed line is more likely to cause running & starting problem as air will be pulled into the line and then into the pump.

Fuel problems can be very frustrating - top marks for your efforts so far.
My Hunter had a fuel problem that took months to trace, but it always ran fine when pulling fuel from a jerry-can in the passenger foot well. I eventually found a flake of crud from the bottom of the tank had blocked the joint where the fuel pipe connected go the tank, and the vacuume caused meant air was being pulled into the line at an otherwise OK joint. Good luck !

Shame about your pub trip, reminds me I need to ask what mates in the UK are doing now on their Friday nites. Sitrep from Portugal for comparison.
Cafes & restaurants are open here as normal, no need for ID, application form, or thermometers in unpleasant places. Some tables have been removed & the remainder spaced out. By law the public must wear a mask when entering shops. I asked the cafe staff if I needed to wear one (answer "Yes but...") before sitting outside in the sun with beers & food (& no mask) with like-minded customers. Very pleasant!
Pubs have the same laws but customers don't even pretend to comply.
Staff in pubs, cafes, shops etc always wear masks - unless they're standing gossiping on the front doorstep on one of their regular smoke breaks. We live in a clown world - but at least here folk are sensible regarding the rules.

I think we could set up a GoFundMe for this. Sounds good to me. I have total confidence it would be money well spent but suggest taking plenty of photos during the investigations for audit purposess (and a defence against "photos or it don't happen" sceptics). Ace would b a good place to start

We have progress, and I can confirm old plumbing pipe work + a torn bartowel + some bottletops make comfortable extended bars. We are now out of lockdown and a local cycle shop reopened last week. I marked the occasion by a trip and bought some parts that will get used here then taken back to uk with me, and some tubes to replace the ones I adopted from next doors bike. Was the wait worth it, Oh yes!

One of the punctures is now sorted (next door asked me to look at their kids bike - I'm checking they don't have a puncture by using their innertube in my bike until I can ride into town in search of new tubes or a repair kit) I love gaffatape but it leaks if you use it to fix punctures and leaves a sticky residue that makes it difficult to glue a proper patch on afterwards. So I heard

My insurers deal with a set of windscreen repair places, none could find a screen when mine was vandalised so it was my choice - fix it myself or write the car off. This place (using the original factory moulds?) had (has?) a variety of Rootes screens in stock but were not on the insurers approved supplier list www.rootesparts.com/id150.htmThere are used screens around, if anyone needs one drop me a pm

I decided it was time for another wombling & improvising project as I'd been without transport for far too long. This turned up in the local sales websites while ago but was too expensive for what I wanted, since then I got a cheap mountain bike for transport - so made a cheeky offer for it to use as an educational project / spares bike. The seller even included a set of fabric paniers & delivered it It used to be a nice electric bike but now has a few "niggles" ( you know, the kind of thing your Mot chap would declare as dangerous and not let you drive your car home - note the front wheel held on with straps & bungees !) The motor was seized (& rusted), gears were stuck, the freewheel hub was (and still is) rusted solid, even the handlebar control unit was rusted out (how???). The forks got snapped when the seller tried to forcibly unsieze the motor. Progress log : Recut axle dropout slots in the snapped front fork, then splint the fork when the recut piece snapped off. This is *not* the approved method ! Unsieze the motor ( beer & assorted hammers were involved) Get creative with the wiring ( getting the controller live just needed a strategic short-circuit in the right place to give basic boost, inserting an interior bulb from the fridge got the right voltage to trigger max boost !) Go out and play the sunshine (the battery isn't good but is getting better with every charge, max speed so far 30kph - the front fork and my cautious nature prevented any speed testing). Next question - where to get spares for a Dutch town bike fitted with an obsolete Chinese motor - made by a German company - sold by Hafrauds of Holland - now being professionally repaired in shed in southern Eu? To set the tone I have no tools, the shops are shut, and both my bikes have punctures so I can't even go out to buy a puncture repair kit ! It's all good fun

Nice work so far, I saw this advertised but didn't realise how big a to-do list of jobs came with it. Keep the updates coming I guess the "Cuban" style is make do and mend with whatever you can find rather than hunting for OEM bits made from unobtanium? If you get stuck for co2, pub bottles have the same thread size as co2 fire extinguishers (and I know both work on my co2 regulator)
