Bit of a strange one;
I have a classic Mini with an Accuspark electronic ignition kit, in the original 59d distributor.
It was running fine when installed, but today I went to start the car and could here the ignition coil 'clicking' rapidly as soon as the key was turned into the second position. Removing the king lead confirmed that the coil was continuously sparking as soon as the ignition was switched on.
Removing the postive wire to the Accuspark kit stopped the coil from sparking.
Am I to assume that the Accuspark kit as failed and is shorting the postive and negative of the coil?
I have just finished wiring the new dashboard and gauges, so I'm worried it's something I've done. I can't really imagine what though.
Thanks.

Thanks for the input everyone.
Cost and ease of installation are indeed the priorities. I was pretty set on the MX5 setup but if there was something equally as plentiful but lighter, I would go with that.
The car currently has a fairly hot 1275, but it would cost serious money to take it up to 120hp or so. Seems like a much better idea to go with an MX5 engine and gearbox for the price of a decent set of pistons for the A series.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I'm looking to put a modern twincam engine and 5/6 speed gearbox in my midget.
Obvious choice is MX5, but the engines are on the heavy side being an iron block.
Any ideas for all alloy twincam engine that is readily available?
Thanks.

It's a chain driven pump with the pickup bolted on.

I can buy a new MK2 pump, but my 6n one is almost new so I'll just roll with it.
I'm still curious as to what the shroud actually does, but I can't seem to find anything out!
Thanks

Yep, it's a 1600 Polo 6N engine. MK2 sumo fits and is more shallow, and to be honest I'm almost certain the oil pump is the same as a MK2 aside from the shroud.

Evening,
I'm hoping someone can tell me why some oil pump pickups have a shroud over the mesh, and some don't?
I have bought a more shallow sump for my engine and the pickup sits at a perfect depth for the sump when the shroud is removed.
Thanks!

I'm selling this as it's no longer required- it hasn't been used and is still in its box.
"Aldon Amethyst mappable ignition system discreetly connects to your distributor to retain that classic car look. Giving full user control over advance characteristics. Includes adjustable ‘soft’ rev- limit, variable dwell and immobiliser. Complete with full software and user guide"
Comes with a USB lead to connect your laptop to the unit once it's installed.
I paid £200, I'm asking £160 posted. Thanks

Just use a dot punch and a hammer, tap it round at the edge.
