Forgot these ones where you can see the thickness of the old slab and just how much I'm going to have to remove to get before I start the sub base. 🙄 The wood in above picture is goingto be the new base size. From 6x3m to just under 9x5m.

Not got as many pics on my phone as I thought, so I'll take some more in daylight. Started digging down to see how far the base extends and quickly realised it'll take me a month of Sundays and a new spine if I want to do it all myself. Plan is now to clear site first so I can rent a digger and do it properly. My plans are for 6.5' concrete panels and insulated box profile roof, roller shutter and upvc access door.

I've been lurking on here for years, but the time has come, as they say, to post my garage thread. I'm lucky given that I live just outside the M25 in a nice residential area and still have a good size space and an large garage. But it's showing it's age. Both doors are rotting and the roof has cracks. Plans have been hatched, permissions sought (wife's and council's) so it's time to start.
Once I've searched how to post pics, I will update with progress.

curryracer the trusses came with the garage and from memory I think they are about 5m wide. Judging by the welding quality I would not hesitate to make a set it’s literally 5mm angle butt jointed together. I can do you a sketch if you like and post it no worries I just need to take some measurements. [/quote] Thanks, I'd appreciate that. One supplier I contacted did not want to supply that style trusses over 4m and suggested I contact an architect or qs! If someone used to make them with a 5m span then I'm going to copy them. It's "only" a garage roof. 😆

Well done, lots of hard work there! I'm planning a similar build and was curious of the size of the span and where the roof trusses came from. Made or bought?

Another "back in the nineties" tale:
Left night club in Wood Green (norf London) about 2.30 on a Sunday morning (sober) got 200 yards down the road into a residential area and some random fault caused short circuit setting air horns off.
Tried to disconnect horn wiring, but it was in conduit for safety! Felt like hours trying to yank wires off somewhere, but probably only minute or two. Police station just round the corner so cue arrival of 3 cars and two fully loaded vans, all ready for typical Saturday night out. Just as they arrived I managed to break a wire to stop air horns.
Bit of a talking to and full radio check as it was Ford crossflow powered, caged Chevette with harnesses and no back seats. Lots of browsing coppers on a (rare) quiet night.

I can totally understand all of the above points of view. This is the result of poor air quality in London: www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/james-obrien/mum-daughters-death-linked-to-london-air-pollution/One of the subsequent discussions with the Mayor of London covered the issue of a small business having to sell their current fleet that doesn't meet the emissions levels at a massive loss. They would only be moved to somewhere else in the country that doesn't have strict emission restrictions. What is the solution? Who knows. As far as I can see there is no solution that will please even half then people concerned. (Sound familiar? That just seems to be what politics and life is all about.😞)

I'm planning a garage upgrade and would appreciate comments or hints to make sure I'm on the right track to a good, useable working space.
Plans are to demolish original post and panel garage, have the base removed and relaid lower and larger to fill gap to boudaries and extend into garden. I have bought a good size concrete panel garage and plan to mount these on a 9" block or brick wall to get more interior height. If budget allows, the pitch roof will be insulated box profile roof panels. Around a 2.5-3m insulated roller shutter at one end, upvc windows at other and a upvc personnel door near the window end.
One long wall is shielded by 7' concrete boundary wall, the other side partly by wooden fence and other neighbour's garage.
Basic dims are from the width I'm limited to and the combination of size v length using the panels I have.
Base will be 5m wide x 8m long. Exterior of garage will be 4.3 x 7.95m
Am I on the right track for a warm, condensation-free garage in winter and well ventilated in summer? (Had in mind a small solar powered fan near top of one gable end and vents at the other)
Look forward to your advice, tips, do's and don'ts, your "if I did it again I'd do this" and all that good stuff!

Self-inflicted really. My first Firenza got a birthday treat. New plugs and points, but didn't do up the points screw properly. A few miles down the road (on the way to the pub), it stopped running. Had a screwdriver to tighten up the screw, but no way to clean the burnt contacts and set the gap. Cue the shiny bit of foil in a fag packet. Cleaned, gapped and back on my way!
