(quote)Also, where to obtain a new air filter element - they seem to be very thin on the ground...[/quote] from what I read air filters don't seem to be readily available I know one bloke at least is using a ford element(reversed),not sure what its from anything you want to know about a gamma can be found on here gammaconsortium.com/lanciagammaforum/index.php

from what i have read they made the problem much less likely to happen with the redesigned pulleys etc but wasn't 100% apparently. The later version is on the left, note the extra idler

yeah true, electric is one way to go although I have read that people have redone the whole arrangement and fitted a volvo/audi pump in place of the aircon pump(another unreliable feature of the gamma apparently) For some reason, Lancia decided to drive the power steering pump from the cam belt on one of the cylinder banks. If you apply full lock with a cold engine, the load on the cam belt causes the teeth of the belt to strip off. This, of course, destroys the engine internals; much as a snapped cam belt does. Not the greatest engineering decision ever. Might it be worth looking at the electric power steering pumps fitted to some newer cars (eg. Mercedes A class) to try to avoid this issue?

yeah i have heard all about that, still can't believe lancia released a car with such a major problem.I seem to remember reading that there was a modification made to stop/reduce the chance of it happening, will have to investigate that as I have no choice but to put cars on full lock to get out of my workshop. One thing that has struck me since getting the car is how well built it is,feels very similar to any german car of the same era

Picked this up last week, hasnt been taxed since '99.Apparently the fuel pump has packed in.A gamma coupe has been on my list of 'to be owned' cars for a long time now, makes a nice change from the endless list of audis I have had over the last 10 years or so

I have often heard the 49/50 numbers but if you look on here half way down the 2nd page it states nearly 200 were sold in the UK,48 were the 250bhp 4.2 and the rest were the 230bhp 3.6

quick question. do you have to pay rates on a unit if you don't use it for a business? well,if you are talking about farm buildings they are not applicable to be charged rates(so i am told) something to do with them being used for food production(and repairing cars ;D)

I was renting a few spaces off a farmer, basically £5 per week per car in a barn.I told him I was looking for something more permanent so he kicked out a few people who were storing caravans and I moved into the whole thing.can get 18 cars in it,about 1800 sq ft for £150 per month, nothing else to pay.Farms are by far the best places
I still need more room though

story i heard was that in part payment for fiat setting up a factory in russia producing the russian version of a fiat 125 the italians would receive several million tonnes of steel from russia. We all now know this steel was wibblepoo, which now means several of my favourite cars of the 70s and 80s are just about extinct
