thanks everyone - good insight there.
I've found that Toyo Proxes seem to be remarkably cheap - I've got them on my Cortina and haven't had any problems with them, although that is with a much smaller diameter and kept garaged.
Cheers

Hi folks, resurrecting this thread from the depths of RR's vaults - it's now MOT time again, we didn't change the tyres following last year's advisories and nobody has died. However, a pre-MOT inspection tells me they won't pass this year so we need three new tyres. I've always replaced tyres with the same make as was fitted from new or with a known recognised make (Pirelli, Goodyear etc) but as my wife does little mileage and no long journeys and it seems premium tyres are no better for durability than cheaper ones, it seems crazy to spend premium money on Bridgestones again. So the question is: what mid range tyres have people had good experiences with? thanks folks! (not the wife's car!) Cortinaman

I'd love to know a bit more about this...: Is it a supercharger?? Is that the inlet looking a bit like an exhaust manifold? And this is just lovely I zoomed in on my photo and it would seem to be a Centric Supercharger which can apparently be bought new from these chaps www.cozetteengineering.co.uk/centric apart from that, I know as much as you! The woody is a bit of a mystery - looks a bit like an American 37 Ford, but not quite - I wonder if its based on a French Matford (Ford/Mathis Colaboration - dvole.free.fr/matford/catalo36.htm I am sure someone on here will know!

Great fabrication work there jim, the buckets really suit the car. I had the same ones in my mk1 for a while, but swapped them out before I took it to Italy 11 years ago because they were really uncomfortable on longish journeys. I replaced them with leather SAAB 93 seats (heated - although I've never wired them up), which are super comfy and fitted straight onto the rails I had made for the buckets. They don't look too modern to me!

Not sure if this is related - I seem to be unable to log in via my mobile - it tells me "my user name is invalid." which it isn't - I managed to get in by clicking on "Forgot your password" and resetting my password, but now it's back to "my user name is invalid" - perfectly fine on my laptop!

I love a downdraught pre-crossflow - watching with interest. I've always fancied one (if I could find one!) for my Cortina but I think the carbs would poke through the bonnet (is that a bad thing?)

you've ploughed so much time and skill into both the Morris and the Escort it would be a shame to lose either. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/218734/misfit-manor-putting-junk-cabinetsLooking at your garage thread - is there any room to create storage for the Morris in the roof of the garage - or a four post ramp to gain another car space without needing to extend?

A little side advice - get a good local conveyancing solicitor - one with an office you can go and visit! (don't use one of the cheap bucket shop on line conveyancers) a pal of mine ended up with no end of issues trying to sell their house because they used an on line conveyancer when they bought it and they messed up big time!

The permitted development guidance for householders can be found here:- linkThere are different rules for detached outbuildings to extensions to the house, as you will see. There are also building regulations to consider - if you are building on or close to the boundary the walls need to be of non-combustible material (so a concrete sectional garage would work) good luck Cortinaman

The only two that spring to mind are the Hillman Imp and Simca 1000, both work the other way round (I think) pulling air from under the car and out through vents. I can't help but think that sealing off the bottom of the engine bay and then drawing cooling air through the engine compartment is a bad idea - can you reverse the flow of air (electric fan?) and take off the plates across the bottom of the engine bay to allow more air ciculation?
