I did another photoshop (can't seem to stop) of the Fusion from the side with blanked out windows and a 1" lift as per the strut-top kits joem83 posted. 1" lift with strut spacers and 2" bigger grabber tyres = 2" overall lift with minimal effort Somebody needs to build one of these! (Wish I could but not at the moment - maybe a summer project next year to carry the electric bike next on my list of projects) lord13 I think with those sort of sealed headlamps you just put them in the oven on a really low heat for a bit to soften the sealant. Fixed beams (with grilles on!) inside those units and a mini/landrover indicator lens would look amazing. Or even just painting the non-functional chrome inside the lamp with Vantablack would be pretty good too. I've often wondered if these lights are the same as Mk1 Transit Connect. They're very similar if not. BONUS POST CONTENT! I roughed out a Cube version which would be pretty nice too: (calling frā¬$h&m1ntĀ„! Tagging Kron 75swb

What a fantastic thing! Top marks! (and on the best possible wheels) (As one who owns a Mk1 Forester SF5, seeing this gives me bad thoughts about getting a sawzall out Shame they didnt keep on doing brats on later models (MCM's Subar-ute notwithstanding)

I've sprayed a bike frame and forks with Montana Black Matt and can attest to it being very powdery - I was spraying midsummer in a hot garage ā two years later and I'm still finding red dust in corners and on shelves.
So I'd say do it on milder day, because it feels like it dries in mid-air on hot days leaving a rougher almost sandpapery finish. It can be saved though - eggshell finish can be achieved with some fairly aggressive wet sanding with a fine grit.

Love me a Connect. Missed this thread, then found it doing image searches for 'lifted Connects'. I thought I'd just put this here. Lifted with chunky tyres feels like Ford missed an opportunity for the active / extreme sports market.

Kangoo Trekka (the rare 4x4 lifted model) Extra Rugged. Ideally with the phase-1 friendlier front end. But I couldn't find a good source image. I've found a formula and I'm sticking with it. Audi Pepperpot Forged wheels, matt coated black, Chunky tyres, your soft-road Van/car/mpv of choice*, Nato Paint (or wrap or plastidip) and red/orange rally mud-flaps. You don't even need a lift kit, just some PCD converting spacers. For light rallying / laning / mountain bike transport / pretending you're in the army down at the local Aldi Carpark. Would run daily. *ie: Skoda Roomster Scout/Yeti, PSA Berlingo/Partner mk1, Fiat Multipla, Ford Fusion, Audi A2, Renault Scenic RX4, Fiat Doblo, Rover Streetwise, Polo Dune)

Jonny's put a video up - sorry I couldn't make it despite only living a few miles away (Had to work) Seems like a great day - sort of like a car show but also a bit like The Big Chill

darrenhLast of the nice Land rovers before they started sticking loads of plastic tat all over them - I love the simple grilles on the V8. Here's another - possibly the same car now?

Give me clockwork, not magic. Something that's beautiful because it's a wonderfully put together machine, not something that's ashamed it has to rely on anything as crude as 'engineering' to function. Suppose that's why I'm here I think this should be on the next RR shirt Great reply. Nodding profusely in agreement.

biturbo228Yeah - probably the signs of a culture in recession Good points well made. I think nostalgia is a big part of it - now everything in culture is so piecemeal and many of us have certain levels of ADD from internet use, infinite television etc etc that we hold more comfort in the older things and the white heat of innovation isn't so enticing - especially if it's just a veneer like the styling of a lot of 'moderns' that don't really have anything new in the form factor to offer so it's just weird stuff like the arms race of bigger weirder grills (BMW, Lexus, Audi) or smaller and smaller windows because who needs to see out if you have a little thing that beeps if you're about to reverse over a child on a trike I think car design is on the way out of that phase a bit thank goodness with some more level headed and rational designs of late - and the electric thing is pushing the packaging and form factor in ways untold for so many years that we may just get some nice new cars that actually innovate without having to be retro or look so aggressive that it's designed to look like a fist in your rear view mirror

I always thought TLG dropped the ball with the Mk2 Range Rover - throwing out the baby with the bath water in terms style by watering down /losing the iconic elements from the original and ending up with a giant bloated looking Fiat Panda instead. This resto-mod attempts to fix this by reinstating the best bits - vinyl c pillar, round lights, vertical slatted grille and deinstating the dross - side plastic mouldings, boring handles etc. Amazing how a Mk1 'Classic' goes for anything from Ā£25k-Ā£150k+ nowāyet Mk2s can be picked up for under Ā£1k. Time to pick up a Mk2?

horrido - the 1.6 FSi is quoted as 110 bhp according to stock spec listings on Autotrader. We had the 75bhp TDI - got it remapped to something like 100 which was great for the nippyness. Oh that's right, 110hp. Seem to remember the remap for the 1.4 petrol was 1100 quid to gain you a staggering 5hp or so. Watching shows like Mighty Car Mods and the [relative) ease with which they seem to add turbos to just about anything I wonder how hard it would be to add a 3rd party ECU and turbo and just do it oneself...??!?!!? (Probably Ā£Ā£Ā£ too).

Since the Ford Fusion was so well received - here's an A2 with Rally/Overland pretentions. Would Daily. (I used to have an A2 and never thought - "hey - the stock wheel arches look like aftermarket extensions" until today.) Given how light A2s are this would be a nippy and fun wee beastie. I like an A2, I've had three of the things. Really would still be an excellent car if they fitted the 1.4 TSI petrol and six speed box to it. All the A2OC guys seem to be diesel perverts for some reason and put all their efforts into those engines. So true! I had one - only stopped having it because of being t-boned by a mini-cab. Great things - so pure in purpose and ahead of their time. Let's not forget the 1.6 they fitted - TSI of that would have been bordering on monstrous!

We had roof bars and a Thule roof tray on our Audi A2 for a while. I'll have to see if I can find a photo of it. We downsized wheels with chunkier tyres, but it wasn't anywhere near as extreme as the second photo though Just added a fresh new A2 to the Photochop thread

Awesome stuff - I've always liked these and would definitely consider one for a fun cheap project myself if I had the budget and space in my brain to do it - for now, photoshops will have to do. I was thinking the Polo 'Dune' aka 'cross' soft-roader would also benefit from this sort of thing, or even an A2 - maybe I'll do some more (not my photoshop but potential shown to the fore.) Have bookmarked thread - really interested in what you do to it! Littlepixel Excellent skills on the Photochop, it looks fabulous, especially in that colour Thanks - the original concept had a more rugged feel with roof rails and the wheel-fenders and lower trim were separate mouldings, so I brought them to the fore. Also - can't pretend this (lights and grille) wasn't an influence: It also looks good in tan, battleship grey, primer grey or matt-white (stormtrooper mode - assemble!) I know plastidip do a good range of military drab spray on (peelable) coatings - might be a good way to do it without ruining it's potential re-saleability. Or with real paint - any of those nice non-metallic greys you can get on Audis and Fords these days would work - or a more fun retro colour like you might get on a BMW mini or Fiat 500. Or a nice BMW copper brown metallic. Also putting some previous Photochop efforts here for general 'car as 4x4 wagon' inspiration:
