Happy Birthday RR! I joined Mar 8, 2004. after a article in the new Retro Cars magazine issue 2 or 3 promoting the forum. My 1990 K10 Micra was only 14 years old at the time and thanks to the forum I have never owned a car that 'modern'ever since! I haven't posted anything for ages but do still check in the forum at least once a week.

It's a bit of a blank canvas really. They do really suit the treatment!

Up for sale is my daily driver for the last 4 years. Selling due to upgrade to a MK4 golf estate tdi.
It's a 1999 Polo estate with the 1.9sdi AEY engine. About 178000miles.
Bosch pump so apparently good for veg but I've never bothered
I purchased this from a garage that had taken in as a px. The previous owners an elderly couple had owned it since 2004. There is a good pile of service history.
When I first got it I gave it a full service and gates cam belt kit around 145k. I've serviced it every 7or 8 thousand miles.
In my ownership it's had 4x shocks, rear springs, front discs and pads. Various bushes, Flexi hoses, CV joints, starter solenoid, wheel bearings.
In the first year of ownership the gear box died, so I ended up collecting a replacement box from a VW breakers and fitting it one Saturday (not a fun Saturday!) So it now has a lower millage box from a MK3 golf 1.9 which also had the added bonus of a longer 5th gear.
MOT untill 7 August
Recently serviced
Fuelly says It had averaged 57.6mpg in my ownership
Base model with windy windows and no central locking. It does have a rev counter though!
Comes with a seat Ibiza haynes (it's a seat Cordoba Vario in vw drag)
Set of polo/Cordoba Thule roof bars
Full set of winter tyres currently fitted ready for the summer
Bad points
Plenty of giffer dents
Sounds like a tractor (this also maybe a good point)
The self adjusting clutch cable decided to stop adjusting a few months ago. Causing the clutch to slip under load. New cable now fitted but the clutch pedal has a much higher biting point than it used to
All in all this has been a great little car and has plenty of life left in it!
Price £500
Location nr Colchester in Essex

Hi sorry I sold the dash and dial cluster a while ago. There was a guy breaking a hiace camper on eBay last year. eBay name was 'carribbeanlover' or something similar! Might be worth sending him a message I moved the yellow vans 1.6 12r engine this week. If any one is looking for one of those!!

Connect up just one speaker then set the fader and balance on the new stereo to that speaker. Great if you are using a mono source but not so good if it is stereo. On older recordings (Beatles for instance) this would sound very odd. The mix on their erlier tracks was brutal, often putting the majority of the vocals on one channel and the music on the other. It has worked for me in the past, by sending the sound to one speaker like left front and wiring the single speaker to that channel. The stereo puts both channels together, so it sounds normal. Depends on the stereo though I suppose.

Parts donor is about to meet its maker, just salvaging the last bits of use. Including the un-dented front panel. Just realized that I have nearly owned this van for 10 years!!

The Gearbox code should be on a flat on the bottom of the gearbox on the bell housing. Should be 020 and some letters.

Hi all, I've got a 1999 polo estate with a 1.9 SDI engine (AEY code). The Gearbox seems to be shedding it's diff rivets which seems to be a common problem. Gearbox is an 020 box DFX code. After a bit of googling it seems the 020 box has been used since the 70s. I'm struggling to find a replacement DFX code box I was wondering if there were alternative codes I should be searching for. Any help appreciated!

Great purchase! That looks mega tidy, and very solid in most of the Hiace rust spots (every where!) My advise; Buy cavity wax and spray it every where especially the roof where the pop top hinges!
I've still got a spares van with a 12r engine in it If you need bits, its quite well picked over now though.

I work at a rolls royce specialist, we use Morris golden film 20w50 in every thing from the 1920s to 1980s. Seems decent enough!

Picked this 1999 Polo Estate sdi up a few months ago to use as a winter daily whilst my saab 900 is off the road. I'm not sure I remember seeing these when they were new!? The must have been so dull they were invisible!

Selling some more of my retro tat collection, here I have some big and heavy 1980's Pioneer TS-X20 shelf speakers. Ideal for that slammed Toyota CROWN or Nissan Laurel!! In good working order, were fitted for my Saab 900 for a good few years. They are 6.5" by 11" and 5" high. They arn't perfect and have a few marks please see pics! But certainly look the part. Looking for £45 Collection from nr Colchester Essex
